Fate can be Fatal

Part 46: 24 Hour Countdown

The police arrive soon after, kick everyone off of the crime scene and arrest Toni. Kevin's dads, Sherriff Keller, puts Toni into cuffs and pushes her head first into the car. Cheryl sees her off and is also taken to the station to be questioned. The rest of the serpents rush off site on their bikes, making their way back to the Southside trailer park. 

Once at the station, Cheryl knows that they're not going to charge Toni when the death was self defence. Also knowing they have 24 hours to either arrest or let her go. She prays for the second option. 

Cheryl's statement is taken since she has extremely strong connections to both parties involved, "So... Miss Blossom. This a tricky situation, care to tell us what you saw?" Keller begins, sitting opposite the shaken teenager. 

"Saw? I was outside, with the everyone else. But I heard one gunshot and then Pea ran in first---" she says carefully. 

"Yes, yes, we've already talked to your friend. He said the exact same--- I there any chance this could've been set up, you know, murdering your mother" suggests Keller, coldly. 

"Sherriff. My mother was atrocious. Scum of the earth but I wouldn't send to have her shot. She is still my mother. After all that's happened, I wouldn't kill family" explains Cheryl. 

"Right. But----" the sheriff snaps "Toni Topaz. Legally Antoinette Topaz. Is your--- you're involved?" 

"Dating. Yes" she rolls her bold eyes, hating when people tread around the word 'girlfriend'. 

"Right. Anyway, you trust Toni greatly. Correct?" pushes Keller.

"More than anyone" affirms the redhead girl.

"Exactly. So why wouldn't you send her to murder your mother" he continues, pushing for answers.

"Because I'm not insane Keller. If you don't believe me, ask YOUR son. Kevin? You'd believe him right? He was there, right next to me actually. Now, are we done here?" Cheryl turns cold, feeling attacked.

A few doors down, is Toni. Handcuffed to the table whilst being questioned by another high ranking officer. Out of boredom she gently hits her cuffs onto the metal table. 

"So. Miss Topaz" the officer begins, parallel to Keller's words. "Please go over tonight's events" 

She rolls her eyes, "Well, like I said---- I went inside, Penelope ordered me upstairs with a gun, she went to shoot, got distracted by Cheryl's voice outside, turned her head so I grabbed the gun, she lunged at me-- and-- I shot her" choking up at the end, but her tough exterior remained. 

Cheryl leaves the questioning room but stays in the police station. She seemed to do a lot of waiting around for Toni, it became a habit. 

4 hours until Toni either gets released or charged.

"Cheryl. Wake up" a quiet voice states. She opens her heavy, red eyes and makes eye contact with the one standing above her.

"Thank God" he yells, wrapping her arms around Toni's neck, squeezing tightly. 

Toni laughs in reply, "C'mon Blossom, you really thought they'd lock me away"
