31. Momma

Nikki's POV:

I wake up when I feel a small hand press against my nose. My eyes flutter open and I see Sirius. I giggle at him. He giggles brightly. I smile and sit up slowly as I hold him. I walk to his room knowing he needs to be changed. I quickly change his diaper and throw it out in the trash can next to the changing table. I put on a fresh diper. I lean down an blow on his stomach, laughing. He giggles loudly and flails his arms. I pull away and pick him up. I get out some clothes and start to dress him. He looks really happy an is bouncing.

" Momma..." He says reaching for me. I look at him shocked.

"I'm not your momma buddy. Sorry." I say as I pick him up. He frowns slightly. "Don't be so sad." I say as I bounce him on my hip. I hate to see him look upset. He smiles slightly. I walk downstairs to feed him. I set him in his high chair and look for something to feed him. Jay comes into the kitchen. She sees him. She goes into the cupboard and pulls out a jar of baby food. She hands it to me. "Thanks." I say and get a small spoon for him. I pull a chair up to his high chair and open the jar of baby food. Jay sits next to me. She smiles lightly. I scoop some food out and start to feed him. He eats it all. He smiles at us. Jay picks him up.

" How are you doing this morning kiddo?" She asks in a baby voice. He giggles brightly.

"He called me momma this morning..." I inform Jay.

" Really?" She asks shocked. Sirius buries his face in her collarbone.

"Yeah..." I say looking down. She rocks him. He looks up at her.

" Mommy?" He asks. You could see pain flash in her eyes.

" No buddy..." She says softly.

"It was his first words and it was to us. Not even to his real mother. How do you think Claire would feel?" I ask as I stand and go to throw the baby food jar out.

" I don't know... The way it has been we've been his moms..." She says as he buries his face in her collarbone again.

"I know. I've been trying to get him closer to Claire. I just don't know how to." I say turning back and walking to her and Sirius.

" Maybe we can try together... We've always tried when there is only one of us..." She suggests.

"It's the only thing we can do I guess." I say shrugging.

" If it wouldn't hurt Claire I would let him call me mom..." She admits.

"Same but I couldn't watch Claire be broken anymore." I say.

" I'm really sorry about it... I lost my head..." Jay says.

"It's okay. I've lost my anger too. I understand." I say. Claire walks in to the kitchen.

" Morning Claire..." Juliet says.

"Morning girls... Morning Sirius..." She says looking at him. I look over at him to see his reaction. He just snuggles further into Jay. She sighs and rubs his back. I sigh as well. Claire bites her lip and walks to the fridge looking for food. Sirius looks up at Jay.

" Mommy I want momma..." He says to her and then reaches toward me. Claire looks up shocked. She looks like tears well in her eyes. She closes the fridge and walks out.

"I'll be right back." I say to both of them. "Claire! Claire!" I call after her and follow her.

" What?" She shouts turning around. I jump back.

"I'm sorry..." I whisper as tears sting my eyes.

" When did he start doing that?" She asks angrily.
