"Maymay?"
She came from the direction of the comfort rooms.
Her cheeks blushed at the sight of him.
Standing there just a fews strides away from her, God knows, the first thing he wanted to do the very second he sees her is to encirle her in his arms.
But you, dear readers, knew that in Edward's point of view, Maymay still doesn't know that he had his memories back. So at that moment, Edward wanted to keep it that way, and so he kept his feelings in check, and would do so until such time that he's ready to tell Maymay everything.
He puts his hands inside his pockets. He had to stop himself. And every second passing he felt like he's going to lose his sanity.
"Oh, you're here too, are you with someone?" He tried to sound casual.
What he doesn't know is that, the more he sounds casual, the more she kills Maymay slowly deep inside. For she perfectly knew he remembers everything, but he acts indifferently. And what else could that mean other than that Edward is finally over her? It was what she wanted, but she never knew it would hurt so bad like this.
"Ah... wala naman.. Hinihintay ko lang si Marco." she said, smiling, evading his eyes. She tugs at the sling of her bag, and he knew, she does that when she's uncomfortable.
"Marco? You mean... Marco Gallo?" he frowned.
I think I know what this whole thing is all about.
"Oo eh. Kanina pa nga ako dito.," she said glancing at her wristwatch. "Sabi niya, 7 daw."
I'm going to kill you Marco, thrice. And will feed your body to pirahnas and will enjoy every second of it.
"Well, he texted me, too, he said we are to meet here at 7."
And looking at her, he knew she's thinking the same thing. That Marco set them up. Just like at the art gallery.
He looks around. He suddenly remembers his father. Apparently, seeing them together ISN'T a very good idea. He'd been fighting himself constantly so he won't get near her all this time, to protect her.
And now Marco just did this. The nerve.
Shame Marco and his lame ideas.
And he can't just leave Maymay alone.
Without a word, he grabs her arm and pulls her out of the coffee shop. He looks around, hoping no one recognizes him. He opened the door of the car for her and occupies the driver seat in a swift move.
"Bakit?" Maymay was dumbfounded.
"We CAN'T be seen together." He starts the engine right away.
Maymay gave him that kind of lingering look that made his heart skipped a beat. Did he just see hurt? He swore, he saw hurt in her eyes and she tried to hide it by looking away. Pursing her lips.
She misunderstood his words.
"No, May. I-I don't mean.. that i don't want to be seen with you. What I meant was... " he stopped. And sighed. You know the feeling, wanting to say something but keeping yourself in check or else you'd betray yourself.
He glances at her hand. He blinked hard. At times like this he wanted to comfort her and hold her hand.
"I'll drive you home." he said instead.
"Kahit dun na lang sa terminal ng bus, maaga pa naman." she answered coldly, still looking away.
He glanced at the papers he threw at the backseat. Driving to and fro Maymay's place will take away his four hours he should be spending for researching and reviewing those papers.
