The teleporter had sent me to a new room. It was a big, empty room with multiple pods lining the walls and the same type of control panels from before around the room. There was a larger one in the center, a small stairway leading up to it. I walked forward slowly, glancing around to see if I was truly alone. I approached the steps that lead to the larger, different pod.
"This place is different than the rest?" I questioned aloud. I walked up the steps and approached the pod.
"What is this?" I questioned, reaching out to touch it. My and went through the glass of the pod as it began to break away into data. A robotic voice spoke up over the system.
"Player authentication... Starting master registration. User name: (Y/N)... Registration complete." The voice finished as the pod lifted upright. The pod opened, revealing a male form. It appeared to be an AI. He opened his eyes slowly. His body was lifted up into the air slowly. Right when he fell and I reached to save his fall, a gunshot entered my hearing. I gasped and first gently set the AI down. I would deal with these other players after! I heard the sound of a photon sword being activated and rushed steps towards my location. I looked between protecting the AI or equipping my gun and fighting. I then realized that I wouldn't have enough time to activate any skills and just focused on protecting the AI. When I turned around to face my attacker head on, our eyes met. My own widened in shock at the familiar face. His sword was almost about to slice me when the AI behind me called out.
"...Master?" He stopped his attack in an instant. He took that moment to truly take a look at his opponent. Only then did he realize who I truly was.
"Kirito?"
"(Y/N)?" His sword was still aimed at me, however I stayed unmoving. I would protect this AI no matter what, even if an old friend was standing before me. I heard a familiar voice shout out him.
"Hold it right there!" Kureha yelled. Another voice followed.
"You better put your gun down." Asuna called out, aiming her gun at my childhood friend. So if Kirito and Asuna are here, that must mean that the entire gang is here too. Kureha gasped.
"Huh? When did you...?!" She trailed off. Kirito lowered his sword and deactivated it, looking to the other two women.
"Listen. We don't want to fight. Looks like we didn't make it in time, unfortunately." I lowered my arms and looked between the three.
"Didn't make it in time...? Make it in time for what?" Kureha asked. Kirito turned around and looked back to me and the AI.
"It seems like that ArFA-sys picked your friend as its master." He stated. I looked between him and the AI in shock. Now that I think about it, I think the registration process began as soon as I touched the pod. Kureha and Asuna approached Kirito and I, along with the AI. I stood up from crouching in front of the AI and was bombarded with a hug.
"A-Asuna! I-is that really necessary?" I exclaimed in shock. Kirito chuckled.
"What can you expect, it's been a few years since we last saw you. After that game, you stopped playing with us in VR." I frowned and nodded. Kureha looked between the three of us in shock.
"Wait, you know these people!?" She exclaimed. I rubbed the back of my neck and nodded.
"Yeah. Kirito and Asuna were some of my greatest friends in the first VRMMORPG we played together. However, after that ended, I lost touch with them. I guess it's easier to say I just needed some space." I stated. Kureha's eyes widened.
