Chapter Forty-Four (Ambush of the Imposters Cont.)

"Let's get going. We've wasted enough time already." I frown in concern at Itsuki. What happened between the time Itsuki started playing and now? Where did that old Itsuki go? It's obvious to me now that Itsuki is trying to deny that he was anything like what we've seen from his past copy. Either way, we continue further in, fighting the enemies that show up with ease. Once again, the enemies are somewhat easy to kill, which must mean that something strong is ahead of us. We reach another teleporter and it takes us into a wide, open room. As soon as we spawn in, the lights in the hall turn red. I immediately bring my weapon out.

"I don't like the look of this..." I murmured out. Kureha nodded in agreement.

"Same..." The large metal locks that were on the ceiling released with a hiss. The ceiling retracted in and down came a large enemy. A boss. The Elemental Wizard. Three health bars. This will be hard...! We immediately begin shooting, our bullets doing little to the boss's HP. I gasp when it raises its left hand with a prediction line in my direction. I dodge, expecting some sort of laser beam to be shot out of the hand. No, it shoots a literal ball of fire in my direction.

"(Y/N)!" Kureha calls out my name in panic. I barely dodge the attack, feeling the flames singe the hairs on my arm.

"I'm alright!" I call back to them. The Elemental Wizard roars, summoning crystal minions that will try to debuff us.

"Hikaru! Take out the minions!" I call out.

"Alright, Master!" The boss then raises its right hand. I hear a strange, static like sound nearby and then I realize that the boss is doing an AoE attack on me. I run, trying to escape the radius of the attack. The ground behind me explodes, causing me to be flung forward, however I correct myself with a roll. It takes a while of constant dodging and attacking, but when we get the boss down into the yellow range of health, the attacks start to happen faster. The flames and thunder attacks begin to be pushed out in multiples, causing us to have to dodge perfectly if we didn't want to get hit by either attack. The Elemental Wizard suddenly raises both arms, readying some sort of AoE attack.

"Watch out!" Itsuki shouts out to us. The boss lets loose the attack, multiple thunder charges being released all over the arena. We manage to avoid the first round. Then the boss does it again immediately after putting its hands down.

"Damn it! This thing just doesn't let up!" I exclaimed. We're almost down to the last bar of health. When the health reaches the last bar, it readies a fiery, AoE explosion. I realize that Kureha is in range of the attack and I yell at her to get out.

"Kureha! Get out of there! It's going to do a large AoE attack near you!" I yelled out to her. Kureha tries to escape, however she was too late and the brute force of the attack sends her flying with a pained scream.

"Kureha! Hikaru, cover for me! I'm going to help her!" I call out. It's like seconds tick by as I race out in front of Kureha, raising up a shield that will protect us for one hit. The boss fires a fireball out in our direction, more than likely targeting Kureha since her health is the lowest. The shield flickers against the fire and I sigh in relief. Kureha smiles gratefully at me.

"Thanks, (Y/N)! I would have been a goner right there if you hadn't raced over to help me." I chuckle and shake my head.

"It's nothing, you'd have done the same for me. Now come on. Let's get this fight over with! We almost have this!" I exclaimed and Kureha nodded in agreement, sharing my excitement.

"Right!" We get up, shooting at the boss once more. Once we reach the red zone, the boss begins to attack even faster than before. It's even buffed itself up, raising its ATK and DEF to our attacks. It almost feels like it was going to be too much for us. However, we somehow manage to kill the boss without losing any one. I sigh out in relief once I see the tell tale sign of the boss being killed.
