4 YEARS OLD

"Daddy!" I called out as I walked down the hall. "Daddy!?" I called out again and went to their bedroom door. Noticing that it wasn't closed all the way I pushed it. My mother sat at the end of her bed with Ezekiel, as he was wrapping her wrist up. "Mommy?" I asked and she looked at me. "Chloe!" She said tears falling. "Uncle Zeke?" I asked and he smiled sadly. I walked over and crawled in bed next to her. "What happened?" I asked and she sniffled. "Mommy just fell baby. It's okay"'

That was the first time I saw what my father did to my mother. It never registered in my little four year old mind. He claimed to love her. He claimed that he'd give his life for her. He might of actually did at some point, but that love was long gone. The pressure of his job and the effects of the alcohol told me that. If you love someone why would you put your hands them?

5 YEARS OLD

My Uncle Ezekiel had me for the night so my parents could have a date night. At least that's what I always thought...

I rushed inside after he dropped me off with my little backpack bouncing against my back. "Mommy! Daddy!" I yelled out. "I'm home!" I heard a crash and I jumped, before turning going down the hall to their bedroom. "Mommy?.. Daddy?" I called out. I pushed the door open and my father stood there with a beer in hand, and a paper in another. "God Damn it!" He yelled out and threw the beer bottle at the wall next to me.

That was the day I found out that my mother was taken to Grady Memorial hospital, and died leaving her defenseless daughter with her drunk and somewhat abusive father.
