I woke up to the sunset. I could see golden beams of light brushing against me, warming me up. The window was open ever so slightly, allowing the breeze to brush over me.
I lifted myself up. I was back in my room, laying on my bed. I hadn't been here in what seemed like aeons.
It was definitely a lot tidier than I remembered. The books were all organized. My desk wasn't covered in papers.
That wasn't the only difference. There was someone in my room. Someone who I was incredibly glad to see.
"Luca?" I whispered.
He was sitting on a chair reading one of my books. He looked up, startled by the sound of my voice, he almost dropped the book. Instead of dropping it he placed it onto my desk.
He stood cautiously. Raising his hand up, telling me to remain calm.
I couldn't remain calm.
I hopped out of the bed, launching myself at him. My arms wrapped around his torso, I pulled myself into his chest.
The soft fabric of his shirt pressed against my cheeks. I closed my eyes, letting his warmth travel through me.
He held me. Running his arms up and down my back as if he couldn't believe I was there.
He broke away from the hug, holding me at arms length. His eyes scanned over me, looking for any obvious injuries.
I felt incredibly self conscious. His gaze was heavy.
I hid my arm behind my back. Who knew what he would say if he saw he marks. The slashes which travelled up and down my wrists. He'd most likely go on a rampage.
He reached for the arm. I held it further behind my back.
"Melody" he warned "let me see it"
I loosened up, allowing him to softly wrap his hands around my forearm.
He gently lifted my arm upwards so that he could examine it. An unknowable emotion fell across his face. I could hear him swallow.
He rubbed his thumb over the inside of my wrist, rubbing circles into my skin in an attempt to comfort me.
"I'm sorry" he said "I'm sorry that I couldn't protect you"
I shook my head. "I don't care. I'm here now, you're here, let's talk about that"
Luca rested my hand back down at my side. He looked me over one last time.
Something felt off.
I retreated back to my bed, sitting lightly on the mattress. The breeze travelled over my back, it was slightly chilly.
I shivered.
Everything felt odd. There was a strange silence in the air. Not the usual silence between us.
"What day is it?" I said, I was staring at my hands, unable to make eye contact.
"What day do you think it is?" Luca said, his eyebrows were raised. I could tell from the tone of his voice.
I bit my lip. I couldn't have been gone for more than five days. It was the 20th when Max had taken me.
"The 25th of December" I said, although I didn't sound too confident. Perhaps I was incorrect, maybe I'd been gone for a week.
I shook my head. There was no way in hell it was over five days.
I looked over to Luca, he was giving me that look again. The look that I couldn't determine.
