Luca went to grab food. It wasn't up to negotiation anymore, it was Luca's call. He'd phoned up a Chinese takeout half an hour ago and had set out to get it, leaving me alone.
I wasn't exactly alone, Mitch and Claude were about, through I had decided to give them a little bit of space.
They were camped out in Mitch's room at the end of the hallway. Every few minutes I could hear the sound of laughter, Mitch's loud obnoxious laugh which he hated so much.
I smiled to myself. It was nice that Mitch was laughing, he was so stony all the time. I kind of liked that Claude was able to find the cracks in his demeanor.
I was searching through the bookshelves in the hallways, trying to find anything to entertain myself with. My eyes scanned over family pictures, reminding me of much warmer times.
I fixed my eyes on a picture of me when I was five. I was soaked with water from the rain and was drowning in the fabric of a Soddy old yellow raincoat which barely worked. Dad had thought the expression on my face was so novel that he had to immortalize it via the use of photography. I was kind of glad he did, it was nice to see that my angry expression had not changed since I was a child.
Right now, Dad was out of the country, visiting family. Luca had given me the run down before he ran off. Dad had been out there for weeks, probably drinking away the pain.
I fixed my eyes on our considerable stack of board games. I hadn't played a board game in what seemed like aeons. I scanned my eyes over the games: Monopoly, Yahtzee, Operation, and Backgammon. The list could've gone on and on.
However, I was looking for a particular game. One which my parents had brought last year on a whim.
I knelt down to the bottom shelf, searching for the game.
Everything felt alien. It was like i hadn't been there for a million years.
I stood, staring warily at the door to Mitch's room. I hadn't heard anything in a while, which was never s good sign.
Then again, I didn't really care. Mitch was my brother after all, he had far too much blackmail on me at the moment. If I did catch him in the middle of something incriminating, it wouldn't actually matter.
I charged towards the door, wrapping my hand around the handle. I heard the distinctive click of an unlocked door.
I swung the door open, barreling into Mitch's room.
"Mitch, where did you put Cards Against Humani- Oh shit!" I exclaimed.
My mind flew back to that day in the woods, when Mitch walked in on Luca and I, about to engage in....I didn't even know what we were about to do.
Both parties were in some state of undress, Mitch down to his black boxer shorts, Claude on the other hand wearing only a pair of jeans.
I could see two shirts and a pair of sweatpants tossed onto the floor.
Mitch's back was pressed against the backboard of his bed. Claude straddled him, and was about to create a large hickey on Mitch's neck from the way that he was going at it.
That was...before I had rudely interrupted them.
Mitch jumped, he practically threw Claude off of him. Claude landed on the foot of Mitch's bed in a tangle of long limbs.
Mitch gave me a horrified stare, his eyebrows were pushed together like two tectonic plates fighting for dominance.
His mouth was attempting to formulate a sentence, I could see him. He was attempting to speak, however no words were coming out.
