After Maria's arrival we had settled down in the living room to the old house. It was decorated in a rustic style, the couches were incredibly soft as well. I was currently curled up in the corner of the couch, engulfed in a fluffy red blanket. Luca and Maria were currently involved in a fast paced conversation. I didn't have the energy to keep up with it.
I found myself drifting in and out of sleep, my eyelids felt heavy. On the coffee table sat three hot chocolate mugs, which happened to be one of the reasons why I was slipping in an out of an unconscious state. Beside the hot chocolate mugs sat a bottle of wine, white wine, which Maria had been knocking back at an increasingly fast rate. It was actually quite impressive.
I was beginning to slip out of consciousness again when I felt a hand wrap itself around my bicep, shaking me back and forth.
"Hey!" I screeched. I sounded like a harpy.
Luca rolled his eyes at me, his grip just tightened around my bicep.
"You know that hurts right?" I said
"I don't care. Stay awake" he snapped
I huffed. Pulling my arm out of his grasp, I crossed my arms firmly over my chest. I turned my body away from him.
"Luca!" Maria snapped "How dare you shake a woman like that?"
Luca sighed.
"You, don't give me orders, Maria" Luca snapped
He and Maria broke into a verbal squabble. Squabble was a nice word for their argument, it was more like a verbal altercation. They were both so busy arguing that the couldn't hear the sharp knock on the door.
I yawned, lifting myself off of the couch. I surprisingly slipped out of the room without either of the two parties that I was with noticing. I walked through the hallway, one hand placed on the wall, to prevent me from falling asleep.
I wrapped my finger around the brassy doorknob, twisting it so slow that it was almost painful. The door swung open to be met with the round face of what must have been Vanessa (if my memory was serving me correctly). She was about Luca's height. She was wearing a heavy layer of makeup however I could still see the resemblance between her and Luca. They were almost exactly similar except for her chubby face and brown eyes. Those brown eyes were currently staring at me quizzically.
"Hello?" She said
I cracked a tired smile. I probably looked like I was intoxicated, I felt like I was. I'd only been drunk one time in my life. When I was sixteen, I'd snuck out to Candace Ashby's birthday party. Candace was a textbook mean girl who lived in the next neighborhood over. It was wild. I wanted to test how high the alcohol tolerance was for werewolves. At that time, it was high enough to win me $350 dollars worth of betting money.
I leaned against the doorway.
"Hello" I managed "You must be Vanessa"
The woman nodded. Her brown eyes darted around like flies. She scanned me up and down. I must've looked a mess. I began fixing stray pieces of hair, I didn't want to look like a fool.
I could feel the presence of a certain tall, dark and condescending werewolf behind me. I didn't even have to turn my neck to know that it was Luca. It was also obvious considering the pleasant smile which crossed her face. Luca pushed past me and began to engage Vanessa in conversation.
He led her inside, I followed. They seemed to be laughing about something, I wasn't sure what exactly, it seemed as if there was distance between the two. Vanessa would laugh awkwardly at most of the things that Luca said, he's truly not that funny.
