I felt electricity, but he must have felt flames. He didn't let the pain phase him, I felt the warmth of his lips and for a moment, just a moment I was lost.
And then I pulled away, he wiped his mouth off and looked at me, scanning me up and down.
I felt the rage boiling in my chest. I wanted to slap him, scream at him but I wasn't an idiot, I knew that I couldn't not here at least, we were surrounded by power hungry alpha's any sign of anger from me would have translated into vulnerability, the pack would have looked weak and our risk of being attacked would have increased. Werewolf politics were the worst.
I griped Luca by the lapels of his suit jacket, I leaned in so that I was just in his range of hearing.
"Never" I hissed "Never, do that again"
His electric blue eyes met mine.
"I do what I want"
"So you definitely chose to be a dickhead?"
"You don't have to talk, you know?" he says
"I don't want to dance anymore, not with you" I said bitterly
I let go of his jacket and began to walk away, but before I could my arm was grabbed. I turned to face him to see that he wasn't looking at me but at someone else, I followed his gaze to see a man. He didn't look particularly vicious, however it was obvious that the gears in the mans head were turning. He was staring at the two of us with a peaked amount of interest. I turned back to Luca to see his eyes trained on me. He reached up and moved a piece of hair off of my cheek, the soft satin of the glove on his hand made me feel warm inside.
"We have to go" he said
"Who is that" I said
He clenched his jaw, hesitantly he leaned in towards my ear.
"That's Max Lim, he's been after you for a very long time..." He says his voice but a whisper
"Max is different" Luca said cautiously "He's a genius, manipulative, calculated, he's your text book villain"
I nodded subtly
"And now he's got you on his mind" Luca says, the way he said it threw a shiver down my back
Danger.
"I want to leave now" I said
I stared back at the man again. His eyes were still scanning me up and down. I'd felt his gaze on my back the entire time Luca had spoke to me. The man had a glass of champagne on his table that had remained untouched, which he was running his finger around, trying to produce a sound. He met my eyes, and all I saw was emptiness. He flashed me a smile, which made my stomach churn.
Luca's arm encircled my waist, he began to lead us out of the ballroom, however my legs felt like lead. I'd just realized how tired I was. I felt my body ease. Luca seemed to notice this. He gripped my waist and wrapped his other arm beneath my knees, lifting me off the ground and carrying me bridal style across the dance floor. A few older wolves gave us odd looks, and I could see Angela shoot me a glare over Lucas shoulder. I could understand why. Behavior like that wasn't exactly proper in the werewolf elite communities especially not at a high profile event.
Even so, I leaned into his warm chest, taking in his scent. It was a mixture of pine trees and flowers, Cologne maybe? We continued or ascent up the massive staircase and soon we were in the main entrance. Wasting no time he pushed the door open and walked outside, the cold air of the night pierced my skin. I could hear cicadas in the distance.
Soon I was deposited into soft leather, I must've been in the car. I looked up to see Luca sat next to me.
