"What's that look in your eye?"
You caught yourself after the words slipped out of your mouth. All you wanted to know was the cause of his piney look. The glimmer in his eyes sparkled every time they met with yours. Like he's had something special on his mind for a while but doesn't want to spill it out.
"What do you mean?" Jungkook asked, hesitantly looking away, not wanting to meet your eyes. On his mind was a feeling he could never say, yet it was right there on the tip of his tongue. Why couldn't he be brave enough?
Why wasn't he brave enough to admit that he loves you? That he has loved you for as long as he could remember?
"(y/n)!" A familiar deep but gleeful voice caught both of your attention.
Running down the park track was Taehyung. The boy didn't have a shirt on, after all, he had been running the track. Following him was a blonde-haired Jimin, who was actually wearing a shirt.
"Oh, hey, Taehyung." You greeted the dark-haired boy when he reached you and Jungkook. Jungkook could see the hint of red growing on your cheeks as you discreetly gazed at the sweat dripping down Taehyung's chest and torso. You could feel his body heat radiate off his burning skin, cooling him down.
That. Taehyung was the reason why he wasn't brave enough. Because Jungkook thought you would eventually end up with Taehyung instead. But it's been eleven years since you all had become friends and Taehyung never tried to make a move.
Taehyung had his eyes on someone else, but no one knew it because he kept it to himself.
"It's good to see you here. And you, Jungkook." Taehyung stated. Jimin had finally caught up with the younger boys.
Boy, his thighs were muscular.
"You, too." You replied with a small smile. Jungkook eyed the contact an attraction between the two of you intensely. His expression saddening softly.
Jimin tapped the device on his wrist, breaking the small conversation. "Taehyung, if we hurry, we can surpass twenty thousand steps before noon."
Already running towards the end of the trail, Jimin passed Taehyung and gave him a nudge on the shoulder.
"Alright, I got to go." Taehyung spoke, eyeing the boy ahead of him. "I'll see you soon. Take care, (y/n). Bye, Kookie!"
Then the boy took off.
Your eyes were still set on Taehyung as he continued his run. Jungkook couldn't help but feel the need to say something, anything. But he said the wrong thing.
"Do you have feelings for Taehyung?" Jungkook grimaced. He couldn't believe he let those words tumble out of his mouth. And it pained him because he knew your answer.
You stared at the gravel path, thinking of what to reply back, not sure if you really did have feelings for your friend or not. Sure he was everything a girl could ever want. But could you really picture the two of you together?
And just like that, Jungkook started your little crush for Taehyung. All the feelings you never knew could ever begin, start existing. Taehyung became your focal point after that one question.
You slyly grinned to yourself, careful not to let Jungkook see. "I don't know."
But not only did Jungkook see, he knew. He knew you would fall for him one day. He knew you would someday in the future choose Taehyung and that he'd choose you, too.
He regretted asking that stupid question. He hated how stupid it was. He hated that he wasn't brave enough. He hated himself for not being good enough like Taehyung. He hated freaking loving you. Loving you, made him crazy.
"Oh." Jungkook cleared his throat. "I have to go."
"Kookie!" You yelled back, baffled at his reaction. But that was all you did. You didn't even attempt to stop him, didn't even run after him, didn't even say 'no' to his stupid question.
Jungkook cried. For the first time since his mother had passed, he cried.
What was going on with him? What was the harsh jolt of pain in his chest? What was the feeling of the lump in his throat, making it hard to swallow after his silent tears?
He ran. Jungkook ran and ran until he stopped. Then his knees hit the ground with such force. He brought his head to the ground, then back up. His eyes traced over the beautiful carving on the headstone.
'Here lies...
...Rest In Peace'
"Mother, you always said she would end up with me."
Jungkook always remembered that day because it was the day he experienced his first heartbreak.
(a/n: should a part two happen?)
