(Shannon's POV)
'Hey, it's Shannon.'
'Hi Shannon. Please tell me everything's okay.' Chelsea said anxiously when she answered the phone.
'Yes, everything's okay. You do know Missi's getting out on Friday?'
'She told me when I visited the other day. She's almost back to her old self. It's really great to see.'
'Yeah, it is. I was just thinking about when we first met and wanted to reach out.'
'That's very sweet. I've been having fond memories lately too. I trust what happened before she left won't be an issue again.'
'Definitely not. She means everything to me and I don't want to lose her again.'
'I have faith in you Shannon.'
'Thanks Chels. That's surprising to hear you say, but I'm grateful.'
'I always thought you wanted what was best for her. I couldn't imagine you'd hit her, but she had the bruise to prove it.'
'Wait, I thought I just slapped her. Oh man.' I said putting my head down.
'Maybe you didn't know your own strength at the time in your condition. I trust you have your demons under control now.'
'I did a short stint in rehab after she left. Even though I had no one to blame but myself for what happened, it was hard accepting what I'd done. I couldn't erase it chemically, so I had to own it before moving forward. I've been given another chance and I don't want to mess it up.'
'I'm glad to hear that. You both need to be healthy going into this.'
'Having Maggie helps.'
'Missi told me about Maggie. That was a great idea. Dogs are the best therapists.'
'Yeah, Missi calls her our furry love child.'
'Oh Lordy, that definitely sounds like something she'd say.' She chuckled.
'Well, I'll let you go. I just wanted to touch base.'
'I appreciate it Shannon. It was good to hear from you. Please take care of her, and yourself. I hope things go well and I'll probably see you sometime soon. We have that common bond again.'
'I'm looking forward to it. Take care.'
'There she is.' I said when Missi appeared.
'Hey' She said and gave me a big kiss and hugged me tight.
'I see you too.' She said and bent down to greet Maggie.
'Two more days.' She said beaming.
'Who's counting?'
'Right' She said sounding unconvinced.
'I called Chelsea last night.'
'How'd that go?'
'Pretty well. She gave me a bit of a what for, but basically we're good.'
'I'm glad.'
'I think maybe we should clear the air too. I didn't realize I bruised your face until Chelsea told me. I was out of control Miss. I'm so sorry. I wish there was something I could say to prove how much. It will never happen again.'
'I forgave you a long time ago Shannon, but if things come down to that again I'd like you to promise that you'll get help before it escalates to that extent. Getting messed up doesn't solve anything and even though it masks the pain, it's only temporary relief.'
