(Shannon's POV)
I gulped a cup of coffee, then took a stroll down the beach. I was excited when I saw Missi and Brittany outside sunbathing on the beach.
'Hey Brittany.' I called happily.
Both of them squinted to see who was approaching.
'Hey Shannon. Out for a walk huh?' Brittany said.
'Yeah, old men have to keep moving.' I chuckled.
'Mel, this is Shannon. He's staying at the condos down the beach.'
'Hi Mel, it's nice to meet you.' I said holding out my hand.
'Hi Shannon.' She replied and shook my hand. 'You look familiar.'
'Really?' I asked eagerly.
'You're the man Michael and I ran into yesterday.'
'Yes' I said flatly, hoping she'd meant before that.
'So, what's the special today Brittany?' I asked.
'Don't know, don't care. I'm off today.'
'Dang, I was planning on stopping by later.'
'We were just about to go inside and make some breakfast though. Why don't you join us? I have to warn you though, I'm a much better waitress than a cook.'
'That sounds great.'
Brittany gathered her things and headed inside while Missi held back to take a phone call.
'Have a seat.' Brittany said motioning toward the kitchen table.
'Thanks. Nice place.'
'We like it. It takes three of us to afford it, but I enjoy having Mel as a roommate. Our other roommate's in Europe right now. She's pretty cool too.'
'What's up now?' Brittany asked wearily as Missi came inside looking perturbed.
'Michael's still pushing me to go to that charity thing tonight. I don't want to be paraded around so he can brag about how his neurological breakthrough saved my life.' Missi said.
'Why fight it Mel, you know you will anyway.' Brittany said.
'I just wish he'd introduce me as a person and not some trophy of his accomplishment.'
'I keep telling you Mel, he treats you more like his property than his girlfriend. He may have saved your life, but he doesn't own you.'
'I really need to rethink this relationship.'
'Yes, you seriously do.' Brittany said rolling her eyes at me. 'How does everyone want their eggs?'
'Scrambled, just like my brain.' Missi joked.
I was glad her relationship with the doctor seemed staged, although the Missi I'd known would never have put up with that kind of relationship.
'How did he save your life Mel?' I asked.
'I was in a car accident and he developed a new technique for repairing a specific brain injury during my surgery.'
'I'm sorry you were hurt so badly. It sounds like you were lucky to have him as your doctor and why you might feel indebted to him.'
'Yeah, but I can't remember much about my life before the accident. I feel like so much is missing.'
'Do you have amnesia?'
