(Missi's POV)
'Go dig up Johnny Cochran! I want a top lawyer or a dream team.' Jared was instructing Emma frustratedly when we arrived at the police station.
He'd spent the night there and looked exhausted. Emma was juggling cancelling tour dates and finding a lawyer for Brittany. The tour dates being cancelled were for one month to start and hopefully by then things would be back to normal. Jared couldn't possibly be centered enough to tour now, it demanded too much of him.
Shannon insisted I see a doctor, so we went to a clinic after leaving the police station. I didn't really want to go. I had trust issues with those in the medical profession due to Michael and his friends. It only made sense going though, if and when it was time to go on the road I couldn't be tossing my cookies left and right.
The doctor was Spanish but spoke English very well. After I told him about my issue he asked if I'd been under a lot of stress lately. I told him there had been some stress about the wedding, but very recently there had been a turn of events that led to the death of someone I knew.
'I think your regular doctor has diagnosed your condition correctly as being an ulcer and undue stress has exacerbated it. There doesn't appear to be anything else wrong. We can increase the dosage of your medication or try a different one.' The doctor said after examining me.
'Let's try something different.' I replied.
'I don't mean to pry, and you don't have to answer if you don't want to. By chance was it the death of Michael Grayson that upset you?' He asked.
Shannon and I looked at each other cautiously before I nodded my head.
'Was he a close friend?'
'Not by any means.' I replied disgustedly.
'I wasn't upset this morning to hear of his passing.' He said as he washed his hands. 'I once treated a woman who was involved with him. He was a very sinister individual.'
'What was she treated for?' I asked warily as Shannon crossed his arms and shifted his balance.
'She'd been beaten, bloodied and bruised. A neighbor found her and if she hadn't brought her in, she would have died from internal bleeding.'
My mouth dropped open and Shannon looked just as shocked. If we played our cards right, this man might be willing to help us.
'Did the internal injuries have anything to do with a foreign object being implanted inside her?' I asked.
'No, blunt force trauma.' He replied.
'Oh, maybe I was luckier then.' I said hoping to bait his curiosity.
'I sensed your knowledge of him might be due to an unpleasant encounter as well.'
'Yes, very much so.' I replied before telling him about my situation and how valuable someone else's testimony would be for Brittany.
'Normally I wouldn't divulge information regarding a patient. If it will help free your friend, I find it difficult to refuse. Grayson obviously cared nothing about the oath he took as a doctor, or he wouldn't have treated people the way he did. Your friend should be commended for ridding the world of his presence instead of being locked up. I don't know if you'll have any success finding her. Let me pull her file and you can at least try. If you find her, please don't mention how you did.' He said as he left the exam room.
Shannon and I were overjoyed. This could be a godsend.
'I can't believe we stumbled on this. It's mind blowing.' I said happily.
