Chapter 21

(Missi's POV)

'You aren't planning on surprising Jared with our news by just dropping by, are you?' I asked Shannon when he turned onto Jared's street. 'Why would you park here unless you plan on dumping me on the lawn and leaving?'

'He already knows Miss. There's no parking out back because a few people stayed after practice.' Shannon snickered.

'Why didn't you tell me you told him?'

'It's fine Miss.' Shannon chuckled as he got out of the truck.

Still, something felt sketchy and I had no intention of going inside. I hit the lock button, not thinking how futile that was since Shannon had the key. He looked at me admonishingly as he opened my door.

'Let's go.' He said.

'I'll wait here.'

'We can do this the easy way or the hard way.' He said unlatching my seatbelt.

'We don't have to do it at all. Let's just go home.' I said sliding my dress up my leg slowly.

He blinked as he stared at my leg, running his tongue over his lips. He looked across the street briefly at Jared's, then back at me.

He opened the door behind me and started folding the seats down. Although that wasn't what I had in mind, I hoped maybe he'd be more agreeable about going home afterward. He helped me out of the car and removed my coat, tossing it on my seat before closing my door.

'Get in Miss. This won't take long.' He said motioning to the backseat.

'Why can't we just go home?'

'Because I'm not waiting any longer. You started this and I'm going to finish it.'

I heard the door slam shut as I crawled toward the back of the truck. Shannon was over me in an instant, grinding his hips against my ass. I felt the back of my dress slide up as he leaned backward. He growled as he groped my ass cheeks, then smacked my ass hard. That wasn't the only thing that compelled me to shriek, someone had banged on the driver-side door.

'Shannon! People are waiting!' Jared bellowed, then banged again.

'FUCK!' Shannon said frustratedly.

He leaned over the front seat and edged the window down.

'Give me two minutes Jay. Two fucking minutes!' Shannon yelled.

'Okay, but I hope you like knowing eyes are upon you even though your windows are tinted.' Jared joked as he peered in at Shannon.

'We have a special guest, someone we weren't sure could make it on short notice.' Jared snickered.

'Who?' Shannon asked.

'Mom'

'You could have given me a head's up on that ya know.' Shannon grumbled.

'It was supposed to be a surprise—surprise!' Jared laughed.

'Get it together Miss.' Shannon groused.

'Will someone please tell me what the hell's going on.' I said angrily.

'It's your engagement party. I'll bet you're surprised too.' Jared chuckled.

'You should have told me what was going on Shannon. Then we wouldn't have ended up like this.' I said, and he glared at me.

'Does that mean you're not coming in?' Jared asked grinning and we glared at him. 'Come on lovebirds. I'll just tell everyone you were deeply engrossed in conversation.' He snickered and headed toward the house.
