(Missi's POV)

'This is where I got your ring.' Shannon said as we entered a jewelry store. 'Well, both.' He said grinning.

'Our situation has been somewhat unique.' I smiled back.

'Definitely' He snickered.

The last time I picked out wedding rings I was 18 years old, pregnant and believed I was in love. It made me half sick thinking about it and I shivered with disgust. I hesitated to approach the counter filled with sparkling gems, silver and gold.

'Cold feet?' Shannon joked.

'Not this time.' I said reassuring him with a smile.

'Nice to know.' He said unenthusiastically, and I felt bad.

'Please don't read anything into that. I thought I was in love then, but I know with all my heart I am this time.' I said taking his hand.

He squeezed my hand and we began perusing the wedding band selections. Unfortunately it wasn't meant to be a private affair. I noticed two women whispering and staring before Shannon did.

'Sucks to be them I guess.' Shannon said amusedly when I tipped him off to their presence.

I felt bad for him. Would people ever realize he was just a person, not an idol or only the object of their desire? He deserved to have a life without their scrutiny.

'See anything you like?' He asked as we moved further away.

'I don't have a preference really. The fact that it means I'm yours is what I'll love most about it. You pick.'

He seemed pleased with my response, giving me a kiss on the cheek.

'I like these titanium ones, but most of our other jewelry is gold so we should go traditional I guess.' He said.

'Sounds perfect.' I replied.

We looked at a few bands before I got an idea.

'Could we have these flat bands engraved?' I asked the sales lady.

'Certainly, what do you have in mind?' She replied.

'Could I have a piece of paper?' I asked, and she gave me a pen and paper.

I started sketching out what I had in mind.

'I'm liking it.' Shannon said as he watched.

'We both have one.' I said.

'Let's do it.' He said.

'That may be a bit tricky, but I'm sure it can be done. Let me ask.' The sales lady said as she took the rings and the paper and walked away.

'You're such a clever little sucker sometimes.' Shannon grinned.

'Of course I am.' I snickered.

We had a few loving moments as we waited, and for once didn't care who was watching. We were making the ultimate commitment and felt secure in it, a place I doubted either of us ever thought we'd be considering our track records.

'Yes, this can be done.' The sales lady said.

'Great. We'll take them.' Shannon said eagerly.

'Engraving on the inside?' She asked.

'Yes, ah, what do you think Miss?' He said.

'Can we get back to you while they work on the outside? I'd like some time to think about it.' I said.
