(Shannon's POV)

'What's up?' Jared asked as I frowned while listening to a phone message.

'Missi's bachelorette party is tonight and she won't be home afterward.'

'Oh good, yours is tomorrow night by the way. Maybe it will help clear up any sudden pangs of doubt you might have.'

When I called Missi back she didn't answer, which further perturbed me.

'This isn't good Jay. What if she goes balls to the wind tonight because we're not speaking?'

'Let her have some fun. That's the purpose of a bachelorette party.'

'I don't want her having that kind of fun!'

'I highly doubt Missi would do anything like that. You on the other hand, might have a problem in a similar situation.' He snickered.

'She might if she got really high. You've seen how she gets.'

'What you're saying is that you don't trust her.'

'Sometimes trust isn't enough. I've had the best of intentions sometimes and it didn't make any difference.'

'I think you're worrying over nothing. She's not like you in that regard.'

'Yeah, you're right.'

'Mom won't be home tonight.' I told Maggie as I filled her bowl with food.

She cocked her head to the side as she looked up at me, as if asking why.

'We'll be just fine.' I assured her, as well as myself.

I sat down on the couch and tried finding something engaging on tv. Maggie snuggled up beside me and for a short time I was content.

'Fuck this.' I said tossing the remote on the coffee table in frustration.

It struck me as I showered that I could be out enjoying myself too. Even though my party was the following night, being home alone wasn't cutting it. I was antsy and needed a little distraction more than anything. I called a few friends, but no one was willing to join me. It finally dawned on me that I'd likely be seeing them at my bachelor party and why no one was taking me up on my offer.

I was heading to a local club when suddenly I veered onto the expressway ramp, having decided it wasn't a good idea to be seen in public alone a few days before my wedding. I suddenly knew exactly where I was going instead. As I raced up the expressway I recalled the exhilaration on Missi's face the first time I'd done so with her. What I thought might be a little hanky-panky that night turned into a lot more than I'd ever thought possible, and now we were on the brink of making a life-long commitment. The closer I got to the club I couldn't help thinking maybe that's where Missi and her entourage were. I wouldn't interrupt if was the case, only observe.

I did a lap around the parking lot when I arrived at the club but didn't see any cars I recognized. I tossed my keys to the valet and went inside. I perused the club quickly before making my way to the VIP section, but there was no sign of who I was looking for. I came across a couple guys from a band I knew, and they invited me to join them. We had fun swapping war stories about touring. For some reason the service was a little slow even though there wasn't much of a crowd, so after a quick trip to the men's room I went to the bar. Speed wasn't a factor there either and I had to wait.

I was watching people dance and my head started nodding as I got into the beat. I took notice of something noteworthy, watching a chick shake a nicely-shaped booty. I was into more than the music the way she was working her ass. She appeared to be a high-society type, but she wasn't moving like one. There was very little shame in her performance and the guy she was dancing with was definitely into her. I was hoping she'd turn around and I could see whether the front was as good as the back, when the bartender called my attention to the beer he'd placed in front of me. I tipped him and stood off to the side to catch their performance to the very end, half tempted to ask her for the next dance.
