Chapter 2 – Sam Heasley

I was called down to the police station at midnight for some reason; when I got there I was supposed to ask for Detective Elizabeth Hanes and Detective Eliza Sanders. I stepped out of my car and yawned, “Let’s get this over with,” I mumbled to myself.

I walked into the police station and saw everyone rushing around, talking, and looking through files; I have never seen a busier police station than this in my life.

“Hi, can I help you?” a tall male stood before me; his badge was hooked to his belt, his hands on his hips—he looked between twenty four and twenty six.

I looked up at him and nodded, “Uh, yes actually…I’m looking for Detective Hanes and Detective Sanders.”

He cleared his throat a little, “You must be Sam Heasley, am I right?”

I nodded.

“This way,” he gestured towards an empty hallway with what looked like a million doors.

We walked through the maze of doors for about a minute or so until we stood in front of an open door, “Go ahead, they’re in there.”

I nodded again, “Thank you.”

He smirked a little and then disappeared down the hallway again. I walked through the door and saw Katie Peterson and Nick O’Riley—two of Jessica’s best friends from school—sitting at a huge round table with two female detectives.

“Sam?” one of the detectives asked, standing from her seat and crossing the room to greet me. Her heels clicked on the floor; she had dark brown hair that was pulled into a tight bun, light brown eyes, was really pale, and was about three inches taller than I was.

I nodded, “That’s me.”

She extended her hand towards me, “I’m detective Elizabeth Hanes—I’m in charge of this investigation; and that’s one of my partners,” she pointed towards the taller female detective, “detective Eliza Sanders.” I shook her hand and smiled.

“Nice to meet you,” I replied, moving my gaze over toward detective Sanders.

Detective Sanders was definitely taller than detective Hanes; she was in heels as well, was probably six foot, had dirty blond hair that went down to her mid-back, had gray-blue eyes like Jessica, and had looked like she was kissed by the sun.

“Please,” Detective Hanes began, “Sit down.”

I nodded, taking her gesture; taking a seat across from Nick.

Nick glared at me for a moment.

“Hey, knock it off,” Detective Sanders snapped at Nick; he snapped his neck back at her and then rolled his eyes.

“So, Sam,” Detective Hanes, started, “I bet you know exactly why you’re here?”

I cocked my head a little to the side and raised an eyebrow, “actually, I was told nothing—I honestly don’t even know why I’m here.”

My statement had taken aback everyone that was in the room—the two detectives, Nick, and Katie.

“Wait, what?” Katie asked in all seriousness, “You have to be joking?”

I shook my head and then shrugged my shoulders, “I’m sorry, I really don’t know.”

Katie sighed; I swear if she could Katie looked like she was about to pound her head on something really hard.

I sat up a little in the chair and looked to Nick, who was shaking his head, “Sam…Jessica’s missing.”

His words made me feel numb; I sat, completely frozen, in my seat as the detectives stared at me.
