Chapter 20 – Jessica Montez

I woke up—head pounded—and found that everything that had been sitting on the bedside table was gone: my cell phone, iPod, everything.

“Let me go!” I heard a muffled voice come from the outside room.

All of a sudden the door burst open, “who the hell do you think you are!” I looked up to see the face that I thought I’d never see again in a million years.

“K-Katie?!” I practically screamed; I looked from her to my father, “what the hell are you doing dad?”

“This girl that you call your best friend,” he began, pulling Katie’s hair—causing her to cringe—a bit, “is just becoming a problem for me.”

I got up off of the bed walking towards the two, “let her go, dad.”

“Why?” he yelled, “all she has been is a pain in my ass…cops and news crew on every corner of downtown Brentwood; the house has been detained by police.”

“Let her go,” I repeated, getting angrier and angrier.

My dad let go of Katie’s hair; she ran straight towards me—crying, “I thought I was never going to see you again.”

I sighed in relief, hugging Katie as hard as I could, “Katie, I’m just glad that you’re safe and not injured.” Katie raised her head from my shoulder, shaking her head; she glanced down to her arm and pulled on the sleeved from her shirt up, revealing a hideous bruise.

“Where the hell did you get that from?” I asked, my voice in a hushed whisper.

Katie nudged her head towards my dad; I was absolutely disgusted.

I looked towards my dad and shook my head, “What is wrong with you?! You injured my best friend!”

“Be lucky she isn’t dead,” he retorted without hesitation. I turned back to my best friend, who was now sitting on the bed.

My dad stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind him.

“What are we going to do Jessica?” Katie asked me, tears visible on her face.

“Did my dad take your cell phone?” she shook her head.

“Okay…do you have service?”

Katie tore her phone out of her pocket and looked back at me, “I have three bars.”

“Call someone! Anyone!”

She nodded her head and furiously started dialing a number.

“Hello? Sam?!”

Sam…? Why…why was she calling, Sam? Of all people?
