Hermione's POV

Draco and Hermione stared at her for a second, before Draco broke the silence.

Draco smirked. "I'm sorry, but I thought I just heard you say that Vold - uh, the Dark Lord was your grandfather."

Aurora glared at him. "Yes, he was. And Vol - what?"

"Don't say it!" Hermione yelped, aware of the trigger words that would alert the Ministry. "Um, his nickname."

"You know him?" Aurora demanded. "How? Where? Do you remember my grandmother?"

Hermione paled. "Aurora," she whispered. "Please think. What was your grandmother's name?"

Aurora's face scrunched up in thought. "Emma," she said at last. "Emma Collins."

Hermione flipped through the yearbook, almost in a trance. "Is this her?" She pointed at a pretty, young woman, her name 'Emma Collins' in bold.

"The photo matches up," Aurora said. "I don't remember her too well. Just as an old woman."

"Where did you get the photo from?" Draco took charge.

"My mother gave it to me right before she died," Aurora whispered, sadly. "She said I needed it, to find something."

"How did your mother die?" Hermione asked with a hard tone, not caring about feelings anymore. They could have a dangerous, possibly fatal situation on their hands.

Aurora's eyes narrowed. "Why do you want to know? What's the deal with these yearbooks anyways? I mean, I guess my grandfather went to the school nearby, big deal. How do you know him?" Her voice was slightly hysterical by now.

Hermione made eye contact with Draco, who nodded ever so slightly and wandlessly and wordlessly cast a Silencing charm.

"Aurora," Hermione said soothingly. "We've lost a lot of history, and we're just trying to patch up the things we know. It's amazing your grandparents went here! You could help us piece back history, Aurora."

"She was visiting her mother," Aurora murmured. "She was visiting Emma, my grandmother, in a house near here. And she left me with her friend, gave me the photo and went off. She never returned. The police said it was a freak explosion, some gas lines that were ruptured."

Aurora shut her eyes. "They both died."

None of them moved. Then - "Has anything weird happened to you, Aurora?" Draco, trying to be gentle, asked.

"My family died in a freak accident, then I got tossed around in different orphanages, if that's what you mean by weird," Aurora snapped.

Hermione took another approach. "We mean have you ever done anything strange, maybe without meaning to?"

Aurora started to shake. "I don't know what you mean."

"You do, don't you?" Draco immediately saw past her lie. "We're trying to help you."

"Take me back to my choir director!" Aurora cried, her eyes darting around. "I don't want to be with you."

"Aurora - " Hermione stepped forward, but it was too late.

The entire library plunged into darkness. Hermione could feel bookshelves beginning to shake, and she felt her way towards Aurora.

"Aurora," she said in a calm tone. "Please just calm down. Alright? We don't want to hurt you. Just calm down."

Slowly, the lights came back on. Aurora clutched at a bookshelf and whimpered, sliding down until she was sitting.

"Accidental magic," Draco murmured. "I've never seen it at such a large scale."
