There was no time for happy reunions. They had the ring. Ginny and Harry had to have succeeded in their mission to get the diadem. From what was going around Hogwarts, Draco and Hermione gleaned that Neville Longbottom had killed Nagini the snake - for good.
They were currently trying to track down Ginny and Harry and Neville, and destroy both of the remaining Horcruxes with the sword. But it became clear that that was not necessary when the two came running, singed and smoking, and smelling like they had just been burnt.
"What happened to you guys?" Hermione demanded.
"The ferret?" Harry exclaimed, immediately pointing his wand at Draco.
"No, Harry," Hermione said sternly. "It's a long story, but he's with us, okay? I'll explain, but later."
Ginny and Harry shared a glance.
"We should trust Hermione," Ginny said softly to Harry.
Harry, with difficulty, nodded. "Okay."
"Did you guys get the diadem?" Hermione asked.
Harry grinned. "Even better. Crabbe and Goyle came after us in the Room, and them, being the idiots that they are, set off a Fiendfyre and burnt down the entire place. Thankfully, Ginny and I both play Quidditch, so we managed to fly out before it got too bad. But the diadem was destroyed after we put the blood on it."
Hermione smiled in relief, while Draco frowned uneasily.
"Crabbe and Goyle," he said, faltering, aware that he and Harry were enemies in this time period. He forced himself to look Harry in the eye. "Did - did they - "
"We saved them," Harry said shortly. "And Stunned them. They're safe."
"Thank you," Draco said very quietly. "They're - they're not bad people. Just slow."
An awkward silence followed that.
"And you guys?" Ginny changed the subject.
Hermione held up the ring, covered in blood. "But we need to destroy it."
Ginny and Harry looked worried. "But we can't set off another fire, and the Death Eaters took the sword right after Neville killed the snake. Just Apparated in there and snatched it, then ran off."
Draco's eyes narrowed. "How do we destroy it then?"
"All basilisk fangs have been destroyed," Harry said in despair. "Voldemort's doing, no doubt."
The three all desperately faced Hermione.
To their surprise, Hermione just laughed. "Draco," she grinned. "Check your pocket."
With a confused face, he complied. His face changed as he took out the unfamiliar wand.
"The Elder Wand?" Harry cried, looking about ready to pull out his wand on Draco again.
"It's powerful enough to destroy the Horcruxes," Hermione explained.
Just then, a cry echoed from around the corner. The four immediately spun around. Percy Weasley was racing towards them. He stopped, panting, and grasped Ginny's hand. He didn't even seem to care about Draco being there.
"Ginny - " he gasped. "Come - quick."
"What happened?" Ginny cried. "What is it?!"
Percy looked up, his face ashen.
"It's George."
oOo
Hermione didn't have a very clear idea about how they managed to say goodbye to Ginny and Harry, or how they left so quickly, but it was now just Draco and her trying to destroy the Horcrux.
