In the Future
"Ginny! Ron!" Harry shouted desperately, shoving people around in an attempt to get to the two redheads. The crowd was made up of students from the all years. Everyone had been called to the Great Hall.
"Harry?" Ginny asked. "What's going on? Why have they called us to the Great Hall?" Her eyes were wide in fear.
"The war," Harry said simply, closing his eyes. "It - " he stopped, unable to continue.
Ron looked enraged. "How are we supposed to do anything? He's undefeatable!"
"But we can defeat the Death Eaters." Ginny looked up in determination, her eyes blazing. "We'll hold them off! We've just got to get some defenses up. We knew this was coming!" she said hotly.
"No! Gin, you're not going to fight. You're a year younger than us - you can't," Ron spluttered, trying to convince his fiery sister to go to safety.
"Ron, no! I am sick of letting you guys risk your lives, with me doing nothing to help! I will help this time!" she nearly screamed, attracting the attention of quite a few others.
"Attention! All Hogwarts students!" Professor Dumbledore said in his magically magnified voice.
"Voldermort is coming to Hogwarts. We must prepare accordingly. All students 6th year and younger have to evacuate. Follow Professor Flitwick to the safe houses. There are Portkeys prepared. All 7th years, you have a choice. Stay and defend your home, or go with the younger students."
Not one of the 7th years moved.
Harry turned to Ginny, relieved. "See? You aren't allowed to fight."
Ginny thought for a whole minute before lowering her eyes to the ground. "I - I guess not. I just wish I could," She wiped away a tear and sniffed dramatically.
The boys watched as she trudged away to stand near the rest of the students. "That was seriously weird. She should've put up a bigger fight," Ron mumbled, looking confused.
"It's okay. She probably realized that this is war. It's real. She'll be safe now," Harry exhaled, looking fondly at the lone girl.
None of them noticed the glint in her eye, nor when she slipped away from everyone else to hide so she could join in the fighting later.
oOo
All the 7th years, teachers, Aurors, and members of the Order of the Phoenix were spread in the castle, nervously anticipating the attack. It was obviously all a trick - because Voldermort would never give them so much time to prepare for the attack. But what was the trick?
Ron and Harry were in the same part of the castle, wands at the ready. Ginny, who was hiding behind a curtain, watched them sadly.
They had already been through so much. This war was supposed to be the end. But now they had to rely on Hermione and Malfoy.
Not that she didn't trust Hermione; but it would take Malfoy's help too, and they couldn't trust him at all.
With a deep breath, Ginny ran to the boys, wand already out in the air. "Harr - " she started, then yelped and cast a shield around herself when they both send jinxes at her.
"Ginny!?" Harry cried out, shocked. He quickly composed himself and stared at the girl with an indiscernible emotion.
"YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO STAY IN A SAFE PLACE! YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO FIGHT!" Ron was beside himself in anger, veins bulging out in his neck. He couldn't let his baby sister run out into certain death. She didn't even know that many defensive or offensive spells. And she was his baby sister.
