Harry's POV
It had been a day since the failed trip to Knockturn Alley had occurred. Though Hermione had managed to snag the ingredients, Draco and Hermione weren't speaking to each other, and how were they supposed to make the cure if the two brightest teens of their year weren't working together?
"Hermione," Harry approached the brunette witch. She had obstinately ignored them through breakfast and lunch, and now had her head stuck in a book.
"Hey, Harry," she sighed, putting down the book, which she had been holding upside down.
"You have to go apologize to Draco," Harry whispered, looking around the common room. "Like, the entire world's depending on you."
"Harry," Hermione said.
"Think of all those Muggles," Harry pressed. "If you don't make that cure - "
"I can make it by myself," Hermione snapped. "I don't need him."
Harry's eyes hardened. "Alright, 'Mione, I tried to play it nice. You have no right to push Draco away, because what you said was pretty horrible, and I'm surprised Draco's not angry."
"He's not?" Hermione whispered, accidentally letting a little emotion seep through.
Harry seized the opportunity. "Yeah. Yeah. He's heartbroken. 'Mione, you guys have been through so much together. What's with the sudden grudge against Slytherins, huh? You practically married one, Draco."
"No," Hermione returned to her book. "I dated a Gryffindor."
"And what if you go back, huh?" Harry asked, then immediately regretted it when Hermione turned to him with wide eyes.
"Go back?" she cried.
"Well..." Harry trailed off.
"To our first time period, you mean?" Hermione asked. "Harry, how can you even consider that? I mean, your parents would be dead, Vol - You-Know-Who alive, the entire world in chaos, corruption - "
"And what about now?" Harry returned hotly. "The bloody Ministry is the one trying to kill M - "
"Keep your voice down!" Hermione scolded, glancing around the common room. "And that was nothing compared to - "
"Our memories were literally wiped, with the consent of a lot of people we thought we trusted! We are living a lie, 'Mione, and you know it! Why are you so bloody set on staying in it!?"
"At least we're not in a war, like I've been for the past two time periods," Hermione hissed back. "I'm never going back to the war with You-Know-Who."
"We're still in a war, Hermione," Harry said, frustrated. "It may not seem like it, but we're in a war with the Ministry!"
"Where's the terror? The screaming? The deaths?" Hermione leaned in closer. "I agree that what the Ministry is doing is horrible and should be stopped, but have you ever been in a real war?"
Harry started to respond, but Hermione beat him to it.
"We battled against Voldemort for six years, but you never were in that final battle. The one that decided it all. You didn't hear the shrieks, the moans, all of that pain, somehow contained in one castle. You don't know what it's like to have someone always at your throat, someone who's okay with seeing your blood spill on the ground, someone who's okay with killing you - "
"Okay, Hermione, that's enough," Harry tried to interrupt her, but she had stood up now, her eyes fiery through a sheet of tears, like the night before.
