Harry's POV
"Just keep calm," Harry muttered to himself. "It'll be perfect. Smooth. Like a baby's bottom. Just go up to her and say 'Hey, Gin. You and me, dance?'"
Harry groaned and hit his head against the wall outside Ginny's Potions class. He was currently hiding behind a column, trying to bolster his courage.
Just then, the entire class came flooding out.
"Merlin!" Harry yelped, tripping over the air and stumbling around.
"No, it's just me, Ginny," a feminine voice chuckled.
"Ginny!" Harry's eyes widened comically. "What are you doing here?"
"This is my class," Ginny gave him a half smirk. "I think the real question is what are you doing here."
"Waiting for my friend," Harry quickly fibbed.
"Do I know them?" Ginny asked, amusement lacing her tone.
"No - er, yes - uh - " Harry broke off. "Here he is."
Ginny glanced around the hallway. Everyone had left.
"He just left," Harry shrugged.
"Um," Ginny raised an eyebrow. "Just tell me why you're actually here?"
"Well, you see, Draco's having a ball at Malfoy Manor. It's not publicly announced yet, but, uh... we would like to invite you - and your family!" Harry fumbled over his words.
"Even Ron?" Ginny dubiously asked.
"It would be Ron not to invite him," Harry joked, chuckling.
Ginny just stared at him.
"Sorry," he cleared his throat. "So..."
"So?" Ginny prompted, clutching her books.
"Iwaskindofwonderingifyouwouldwanttogowithmepleasesayyesbecausemyfriendswillkillmeotherwise," Harry said, extremely fast.
"Uh, could you repeat that?" Ginny asked, through she was grinning,
"Would you go to the ball withme?" Harry rushed the last two words.
"Sorry, with who?" Ginny teased him.
"With... me," Harry ground out.
"Sure!" Ginny agreed enthusiastically. "All you had to do was say so."
"You're going to be late," Harry nervously said, gesturing around.
"It's fine," Ginny swung her bag onto her shoulder. "So - " the redhead suddenly exhibited an uncharacteristic amount of shyness. "See you at lunch?"
"Definitely," Harry smiled, his nerves finally settled.
oOo
Harry walked into the common room smugly.
"Where were you?" Hermione scowled playfully, seated at a small table. "We have to go over stuff."
"Oh, nowhere," Harry faked an air of indifference. "Just getting a certain Weasley to come with me to a ball."
"Never knew you swung that way, mate," Draco interjected. "But it's fine, as long as you don't fancy me."
Harry rolled his eyes. "But yeah, that part is already in action."
"Don't make it bloody sound like a Muggle action book," Draco scowled.
"How would you even know about that?" Harry returned.
