Chapter 8 (Piper)

The journey to China was pretty uneventful. Other than some Gryphons that appeared somewhere along Turkey (Annabeth didn't want to go through the Pacific because she said that there were a bunch of old gods we might not even know who could interrupt our flight or worse), there were no other interruptions. With Percy (and apparently Reyna) urging them on, the Pegasi flew at incredible speeds. 

We went down to Brazil in a day, let the Pegasi rest and eat, and then we flew off to Algeria and then Turkey. When the Gryphons attacked, Frank simply sniped at them with his bow, sometimes turning into a dragon and roasting them with his flames. Thalia was too busy with her head buried on the Pegasus' mane. Everyone else was swatting them away with his or her sword. When it was all done, we landed on a barren field in Russia and rested, letting the tired Pegasi graze.

"Can we not do that again?" Thalia said, a rubbing her temples. "Let's just travel overland or something,"

"We-" whatever Annabeth was going to say was interrupted by a very Russian screaming and cursing coming from an old guy wearing plaid and a straw hat. He was yelling something in Russian and pointing at the pegasi but I went in front of him.

"Calm down, there is nothing wrong here," I said, lacing my voice with charmspeak. "See? we're just riding our good horses," I said, hoping he understands English. The charmspeak seemed to take effect on him, but he took out a phone and snapped a picture of the pegasi.

"Good 'orzes" he said with a thick accent. He then proceeded to walk back to the farmhouse that we hadn't seen when we landed. We were dumbstruck by what he did that we couldn't move fast enough to catch him before he entered the farmhouse and locked the door behind him.

"What will we do? What if he posts that online? Piper's not there to charmspeak everyone online," Frank said, looking through the door with his hands cupped around his eyes.

"There's nothing we can do. We can just fight a random mortal," Thalia replied. "Let's just go before anything else happens,"

I was surprised that she was even the first one to go to the Pegasi and ride. We followed behind her, but I still looked back, wondering if the farmer's already posted it online or something. Do farmers really have phones? Does he even have signal here?

"He probably does," Annabeth answered.

"Wait, what?" I asked her, mounting the pegasus beside hers.

"He probably has a signal. I just answered your question,"

"Oh! Sorry, Did I voice that aloud? I was just thinking to myself," I said. 

It was pretty uneventful again after that since we decided to fly higher to avoid any more issues. Just then, an iris message appeared right in front of Percy so we had to stop in mid-air to avoid hitting it head-on and losing connection. It was Chiron. 

"Have you seen the news? You have to be careful!" He scolded.

"Wait, what news?" Thalia asked. "We haven't landed since Russia and we're almost to China,"

"Then you need to see this. Leo, please show them,"

It seemed that Leo has been hiding behind the Iris message since its beginning that he jumped in from beside it and held up a phone.

"Ta-da! I built something so it wouldn't attract monsters. You have to look at this," He said. Annabeth looked like she was restraining herself from asking all kinds of questions about how he got a phone to work without attracting monsters. She can save that for later.

The phone screen showed different news sights and searches, and though some of them showed pictures ad glimpses of Olympus and monsters, most of them were showing one picture. The picture the Russian farmer took of us and the Pegasi. You can clearly see their wings and all.

"Dam! I knew we shouldn't have let him go!" Percy said.

"Hey, there's nothing we could've done," Annabeth said. 

"Yeah, well now that you guys are famous, they think you have some connection to the monsters that "suddenly started appearing," He did air quotes with his hands. " All governments everywhere decided to call a manhunt on you guys, making your quest ultimately harder,"

There was no response from us. We were all surprised by that news. All governments? Meaning all countries? Us? Manhunt? How will we look for Hecate of that's happened?

  "Uhh, guys? You may want to dodge.  Bye!" Leo swiped through the screen. I suddenly heard the loud beeping from behind me and if the Pegasus I was riding was any slower I would've died. A missile barely missed me!

"Anti-Air Missile! From the Chinese government! Fly! Fly fast!" Annabeth yelled just as more missiles appeared from in front of us heading towards our direction.

A/N: so to make up for the late update I ended with this! It would've been longer but my phone's dying and the charger's not working properly. Anyway!
