When I say there were a lot of monsters, I mean a lot. Dracanae, Telkhines, even Cyclopes and Laistrygonians. They were picking off the running humans one by one, and there were police everywhere, shooting them but to no avail. I got my bow out and shot a twelve-foot Cyclops that was about to take a bite of a pedestrian it held above its mouth. The cyclops turned to golden dust and the pedestrian fell with a soft thud, quickly recovering and hopefully running to safety.
"Romans, form ranks!" Reyna ordered. Quickly, the Romans behind us went into formation and charged the monsters. It was chaos. Golden dust flew everywhere. There were some monsters we were having a hard time killing, in which either Sadie and Carter or Magnus would help. Those would be the monsters from their pantheons.
Carter had some sort of aura encasing him, making him taller than even the Cyclopes and the giants. The thing, which had a bird head, would follow his motions, having its own sword. They cleaved lots of monsters. Sadie was frantically drawing a circle on the ground using what I'd say would be magic chalk, since she was drawing it on wet soil, but it was still working. Monsters would approach her or attack her, but she would blast them off with magic and continue her circle. After drawing it and putting some statues on some points, she taps the circle with a boomerang and it immediately glowed blue and protected her from oncoming attacks, letting her make an offensive of her own without needing to think about her defense.
Lou Ellen had some pig balls out. I guess she had more made after what happened in the Giant War. She would throw out one ball after another, baffling the police when the monsters turned into little piglets. I took this chance to vaporize them by shooting them one by one.
The onlooking police officers were speechless as they watched us fight. I mean, I would too if I just saw teenagers with swords and bows decimating monsters my whole team can't even hurt using our guns.
"Take cover!" I yelled at them as I shot one harpy about to swoop down on a police officer. They happily obliged and ran to hide behind one of their patrol cars.
I put my hand on my quiver to grab another arrow when I found that I ran out. Schist. Looking around me, I saw some arrows in piles of gold dust. Guess these will do then. Running behind another patrol car, I started picking off the flying monsters until eventually, they were all dust.
After the battle, I looked around. There were lots of monsters, but they're all dead. The demigods had a lot of injured and I ran to them as soon as I saw these. Hey, son of Apollo here. Soon enough, others of my Roman half-siblings were there to help heal them. They brought trays of ambrosia squares of jugs of nectar for everyone who needed it.
I rushed to Carter who had fallen to his knees at the side of the road. Pulling him up, I did an initial check and saw that there wasn't any real damage. He was just fatigued from summoning that giant bird headed thing. I brought him over to Sadie and went to assist more wounded. There was some Roman with a celestial bronze sword sticking out his thigh. I brought up my canteen and gave him a sip as I assessed his wound.
"Damn dracanae. One of them grabbed my own sword and stabbed me with it. AH!" He yelped in pain as I pulled out the sword, muttering prayers to Apollo and pouring nectar over the wound. Immediately, I could feel my strength leave me as the magic took its toll. I looked around for the others.
The police were trying to interrogate the demigods but to no avail. The other members of the quest, Sadie, Carter, Magnus, Lou, and Cecil were huddled together with Reyna, probably discussing the next step. As I jogged over to them I noticed Magnus healing some bruises on Cecil's arm. He was literally glowing as he did it.
He was also exhausted and leaned heavily on Cecil as they talked. They paused and allowed me in when they saw me approach. We discussed what just happened. How it could affect the camps, how we basically exposed ourselves to everyone.
"There's nothing we can do. Besides, if the monsters do more of these attacks all around the world, then wouldn't it be best if they have people who can actually fight?" Lou Ellen asked. Reyna nodded.
"We can't leave the mortals undefended. I'm going to contact some veterans and the other demigods. You too, we have to make sure nothing like this happens again. Alert all Half-bloods and magicians and all pantheons. We will defend the mortals," Reyna stated. everybody agreed. We suddenly heard the pop! pop! pop! of a gun shooting straight in the air.
Being used to battle like us, we barely even flinched. We quickly unsheathed our weapons to search for the source of the gunshot. Looking around, I noticed that everyone else was, too. Then I heard the sound of helicopter blades and a man on a megaphone speaking.
"Everybody drop your weapons and put your hands up! You are being arrested for setting off these monsters into U.S. territory as an act of terrorism. You are surrounded. I repeat, drop your weapons and put your hands up. You are surrounded."
Well, schist.
