"Hello, demigods. I was held back," the glowing goddess said. She faced the oncoming darkness and seemed to impossibly glow brighter. The light was so blinding I had to look away, and even then I had to cover my eyes.
There was a large explosion we were all knocked to the ground. I still had my eyes tightly closed an had an arm over them.
"She's pushing him back," Magnus said in awe. I could feel everyone shuffling around me, but I still would not dare peek.
"Yeah, she's fighting him!" Will agreed. I was tempted to look, but I heard Will say, "No, no one open their eyes yet! The light is too bright! Magnus- look away!"
There was more shuffling, which sounded like Will tackling Magnus to the ground. The heat and the light grew more intense, and I could see spots of color dancing before my eyes even though I had them shut tight and still had my arm up. I quickly thought of a spell and rummaged through my pack with one hand while still shielding my eyes with my other.
When I found what I was looking for, I quickly threw it and said the activation word. I could feel the air around me cool quickly and the bright glow alleviates even just a bit, and I dared to peek at the ground.
It was still bright, but it wasn't bright enough to blind. It was like I was wearing sunglasses, except it was a dome of magic that blocked light and I wasn't wearing it. Instead, it covered enough ground that we were all inside the dome that I made.
"Wow, that was pretty cool!" Sadie complimented my dome after opening her eyes to look around.
"Ugh, don't celebrate just yet. Magic is still unstable and that can give any second," I said. Right as I said it, cracks started forming on the dome's surface and light started to seep through.
"Turn your backs! On the ground, covering your eyes!" I yelled, and everyone followed quickly. Not even a second after I dropped to the ground covering my eyes did I feel the dome break and the light become blinding again. There were sounds of explosions and heat would occasionally hit our backs but I didn't look up.
"You may look now," The goddess' voice echoed from somewhere behind me. I stood up and brushed myself off, opening my eyes slowly and rubbing them. Everywhere around us, evidence of the fighting was scattered. Buildings were either burning or shrouded in shadow, and there were bits and pieces of what whatever they exploded littered around us. Luckily, no one was hurt.
"He is gone for now. All I have done is bought you time. I am not at full strength yet and there is only so much I can do. For now, you have to finish your quest. You have to save Hecate," she told usefore flashing off, warning us to look away.
"With the light restored and that darkness gone, everyone will be able to clearly see all the monsters and creatures now," Carter said.
"Then we'll have to do this quickly. Let's help Annabeth's group," I replied.
"I've got an idea, Reyna, right?" Sadie piped up, pointing at Reyna. Reyna nodded. "You're the leader here or whatever, right? Lead the other demigods. Since the mortals can now see the monsters, they are defenseless and will be the primary targets. You have to defend them,"
"You're right," Reyna agreed. "We have weapons and they do not. We need to defend the mortals. I will coordinate with Camp Half-Blood and start deploying,"
"The magicians will also help," Carter said. "There are magicians for every part of the world. I will talk to them later, and we can help you,"
"Don't forget the Norse," Magnus chimed in. "I ugh, actually, now that I think about it, the Norse will probably be of little help. We're in a completely different world, only connected her by the world tree, so let's just hope the gods do something about this," He ruffled his hair, thinking.
"Jack, what do you think?" Magnus seemed to be talking to his rune necklace. I've seen people chanting over runes, but never just casual talk. This guy is weird. Suddenly, his rune necklace turned into a glowing sword.
"Hey, I'm Jack, the sharpest sword ever!" The sword talked! It flew around, approaching us hilt first, seeming to shake our hands. When the introductions were over, the sword spoke to Magnus.
"The Norse will definitely help. All the pantheons are in danger. The question is, when and how they will help. We can leave that to them." Jack said.
"For now, maybe we should continue our quest as Hemera had said. If we help Annabeth's group, we'll finish this earlier, and the Mist can be restored." Cecil suggested. Murmurs of agreement were heard through the group.
We walked inside the camp borders, surrendering our weapons to the boundary god Terminus as we entered. Even the city under the protection of the god wasn't left unscathed during the fight between Hemera and Erebus. There was rubble everywhere. People were milling about, rebuilding what was destroyed at a nearly impossible rate.
"Impossible. How are they rebuilding the city so quickly?" Sadie asked, her British accent coating her words.
"We Romans are builders. In emergencies like these, we can disassemble and rebuild the whole camp including the city in the span of a few days," Reyna answered her. She looked around, amazed.
"I don't even think I'd have enough hi-nehm spells in me to fix everything up that quickly," Sadie said.
Just then, a Roma in full battle armor ran in front of us, blocking our path. "Praetor!" he called. "There are monsters right outside the camp. dozens of them, and they're already wreaking havoc on the humans going in and out of the tunnel. We suspect mortal police are already on their way,"
"But the bullets of police won't be able to hurt them," I concluded. "With everyone else rebuilding the city and the camp, there's not much people to defend against those monsters. we have to help,"
"Alright, but here, take a bite of ambrosia first. We need to be patched up before we fight," Reyna replied, taking out a ziploc bag full of ambrosia squares. Everyone grabbed one and took a bite. I didn't know what would happen to those from the other pantheons when they eat it, but it seems to be working just fine.
As soon as I bit into the ambrosia, I instantly tasted the chocolate cake my dad bakes every year for my birthday. Swallowing, I trudged to the entrance, the others right behind me. Reyna whistled, and her two metallic dogs, Aurum and Argentum, seemed to appear out of nowhere and ran to her side.
"Ready? Let's go," She said, opening the doors into a horde of monsters.
