We stayed in a new place for the night. G seemed to know every section of the prison. I wondered if he was planning an escape before. He seemed like the kind of guy who could pull it off.

Entering through the warden's office, we passed through a door to the opposite side of the prison. I hadn't noticed that it before.

I was worried there would be prisoners on the other side but the halls there were empty. I was getting tiered and so was G. He had his cigarettes to revive him but I was on my own. After stumbling once or twice over my own feet, G grabbed my wrist to keep me on track. His grip wasn't harsh but he also wasn't talking to me.

After a while he brought me to an empty cell. I didn't know how far we had walked but I was too tiered to care. G dropped me into the bottom bunk and walked off. Not even the slight worry that he was abandoning me could get me up. I watched him walk away through half closed lids.

I woke up to someone violently shaking me. Opening my eyes with a start, I was relieved to find it was just G.

The relief didn't last long though because I saw how tense his face was. "Come on, we gotta go," he whispered. Grabbing my arm, he roughly pulled me out of the bed and began to drag me after him.

I heard the scrapping of metal on concrete and the murmur of masculine voices. Walking up immediately, I began to walk behind G by my own accord. Even though he didn't have to drag me anymore, he still held my arm.

We moved quickly and silently. Hyper-alert, we easily skirted around glass shards and random metal objects. On the way, G scooped up a large metal pipe. The idea of a fight made me nervous and even more adrenaline began to pump through me.

"This way! I can smell them!" someone shouted.

G looked back, then at me, "Well sh**."

We ran. Not bothering to be silent anymore, we jumped over as much as we could, making noise landing on the rest. I stayed behind G since he seemed to know where he was going and it wasn't as if I could run as fast as a monster anyways.

The sound of large monsters clamoring through the crowded halls trailed after us. It seemed to close down on G and I the faster we ran.

"C'mon!" G yelled at me

We came out of the hallway to the choice of three new ones. G released my wrist and chose the one on the left. I ran after him, jumping clumsily over the junk on the floor.

I risked looking behind me. Behind us, less than twenty feet, was a group of monsters. Tall, large, and mean.

"G!" I called out.

He spun to look at me; I pointed at them. His eye started to glow but he wasn't ready to fight yet. Instead, he ran up to me and wrapped a bony arm around my waist, dropping the pipe. The light in his eye winked and then it felt as if I was being pulled into a whirlwind. A sickness filled my stomach and a faint ringing filled my ears.

Then we were on solid ground again.

G pulled me along, still holding me because I was too dizzy to walk alone. He half carried me along wherever we were until I could stand up without getting sick.

As the ringing slowly cleared up, I could hear the monsters looking for us.

"Where are they?" one of them shouted, his voice echoing of the walls. A few mumbles followed that along with what sounded like a fight.

We resumed walking quietly down the hall. I followed G closely, never getting more than five feet away.

Once I could no longer hear the monsters chasing us, I ran up to G and tugged on his sleeve. "Where are we?" I whispered.

"Shh," he hissed sharply. I let go of his sleeve and fell behind him. In silence we walked through the prison's dark halls.

We were passing a junction when someone grabbed me and lifted me off the ground. I shrieked but it was muffled by a scaly hand covering my mouth. "Gotcha," he growled, his hot breathe on my neck. Forgetting my knife, I kicked backward with my foot while slamming my head back at the same time. One of the attacks hit but I don't know which because as soon as he dropped me, I ran forward to G who had finished the guy that attacked him.

He grabbed my hand and we sprinted away. They were right on our heels now. G and I were running out of time.

We came to another junction and took a sharp right. G was going to go left this time but I saw something. Twisting on my heels I pulled him right. He didn't have time to fight me but he looked furious.

That was until I pointed out what I saw to him. A small smirk covered G's mouth. He squeezed my hand to let me know he had seen it. Wrapping his arm around my waist, his eye winked again and that sickening feeling overtook me.

When I was aware of myself again, I found myself laying of the overhang I had pointed out to G. I could see several large monsters over the tall concrete blocks I was positioned behind. The monsters shouted wildly, their voices angry and incoherent.

I sunk lower, my feet touching G's, and looked around. What I thought was a small overhang caused by bad design was actually a covert storage space. I scanned over the cleaning supplies but there was nothing useful.

When I looked back, they had slowed down and were looking through the prison aimlessly. They grouped up in a corner and started heading this way. I watched them inch closer and hoped they wouldn't be able to smell us.

I tensed as the stepped into the hall under us. Slowly they made their way, peering into each cell alertly. When they were no more than a foot away length wise, even though I was high above them, I stopped breathing.

But they passed under me, not even once looking up.

I slowly let my breath out and looked at G. He was looking down at where they once stood. He looked at me and I could easily see the huge grin on his face in the dark. Leaning his head back, he began to laugh covering his mouth. Watching at him, I felt a bubble of laughter build up in myself. Covering my own mouth, I laughed into it and felt the tension in my body break up slowly.

We were as quiet as we could be at first but then we looked at each other and broke into a whole new fit of laughter, louder this time. We covered each other's mouths but that only made us laugh harder.

When our giggling fits subsided, I felt down next to G. Our shoulders touched but he didn't move away so neither did I. I could feel his actual bone through the jumpsuit, strong and steady.

I looked up at G, who was smirking down at me.

"We almost died," I whispered. We looked into each other's eyes for a moment and laughed hard.
