As I step off of the plane, my ears ringing due to the loud noise of the huge engine next to me, Edwin inhales heavily and smiles.
"The air here is so pure unlike Cali" he says as he wraps his muscular arms around my shoulders.
"Some of the best in the world" I say, accidentally mumbling. The nerves must be getting to me. He must've noticed this as he lets out a large sigh and the atmosphere around us completely changes.
"Baby girl, I don't understand why you're so nervous. I know this place comes with bad memories, but we can make good ones. I just.." He grunts out of frustration, "I just don't get it"
I look him in the eye for a split second, but I quickly turn away and continue walking the runway, almost entering the airport, when I notice he was already looking.
"Edwin, I'm not scared to make memories with you, please don't think that this is on you. I'm just scared that the memories I've hidden for so long are going to come back and bite me in the-"
"Guys, with all due respect, shut the fuck up" Hanna starts walking in between us, forcing Edwin's heavy arm off of my body, "y'all are too deep for my-"
"Ticket" An older security lady stops us from walking any further.
"What ticket?
"Your plane ticket, I need to scan it in order to confirm who you are. You'll also need to step right through here" she points to a large scanner in front of us.
We each hand her the medium sized ticket and we successfully step through the scanner without it going off.
We walk through Melbourne international airport and I immediately begin to feel nostalgic. I remember coming in here when I was sixteen and getting on my first ever flight, we used Jetstar like I did last time which is just helping me reminisce even more. Not only was it my first ever flight, it was a flight to Los Angeles.
We walk over to a Starbucks and we each order our drinks, I hate coffee so I order a frappe while the Hanna orders a Mocha and Edwin orders an Iced Coffee. Once we have our drinks in hands we walk outside, the blaring sun blinding our eyes and raindrops softly hitting our skin.
"Why is it so cold? The sun is out and it's July, which means summer" Edwin takes a jacket from around his toned waist and he pulls it over himself to ease the temperature.
Hanna and I look to each and we begin to laugh, "Edwin, we're in Australia. Not only is the weather here changing every five seconds, but it's winter. We're on the southern side of the equator, remember?"
"Oh" He scolds himself for his stupidity as we walk over to our Uber successfully without being noticed by anyone.
As we get in the car, my phone begins to ring loudly.
I look at the caller ID and roll my eyes when I notice that it's Simon calling me. I put my seat belt on and then I answer reluctantly.
"Hello?"
"Abigail, listen" Simons British accent radiates through my phone, "I know you're on holiday but I just felt the need to remind you, you can't tell anyone about the deal"
"What deal?"
"That my sister adopted you?" I mentally scold myself at my forgetfulness.
"Right"
"I can't stress this enough, it's apart of your contract. You can tell them that you were homeless, but you cannot, and I repeat, cannot tell anyone about my sister finding you or what actually happened with-"
