When I woke up I found Adria pacing back and forth in her living room.
"OMG BAE ARE YOU OKAY WHAT HAPPENED!?"
I smiled. "Adria Jade."
She looked at me.
"It happened again." Her face shifted from surprise to anger. She sprinted to her cell phone and dialled a number.
"Hello?" The receiver said. "Katty." Declared Adria. "Again." And with that she put down the phone. Two minutes later Kat bursted through the door and landed on the couch beside me. "I WILL KILL THEM!" Panted Kat. AJ managed to calm her down. "Who and where?" Asked AJ. "Liz, and park McClain." I replied. "But! It wasn't as bad as last time."
••
"Liz!" I said as I stopped her on the way home from school. "Mm?" She replied. "We're friends right? Good friends?" "Absolutely!" She said cheerfully. I continued, "then will you put aside your religion when I tell you I'm a lesbian?" She stopped in her tracks. "So, you think I'm gonna happily put aside my RELIGION for our FRIENDSHIP? What kind of sucker do you think I am!?" And with that she screamed some words I may be fined for publishing. She then punched my back making me collapse to the ground, and started kicking me around. She was a 'popular' kid, meaning she rounded up a mob of kids to start torturing me as well. Then came my friend Emma. Em was friends with Liz, and with me. She looked at me, then Liz. She joined in.
When the kids had their fill I stood up and ran. Emma ran behind me. "Jan!" She said. "Look, I'm really sorry about back there. But if I want to keep my popularity I have to treat you like the rest of them. You understand, right? Friends?"
I stopped. Turned around. And spoke. "Maybe Emma, that's how it works in your little 'popularity' scam, but that's not how it works in life. I will never be able to look over this. I'm done." And I walked away.
We haven't talked since.
