It had been an exhausting day; both physically and emotionally. With all the cleaning and meeting Peter Parker once again, I definitely was exhausted. I lay down in my bed, my head hitting the soft pillow. I cover myself with my blanket and quickly drift off to sleep.
I entered a dimly lit forest. I could feel the pine smell filling my nose as I walked deeper and deeper into the brush. As I strolled further, I came across a small lake, reflecting the bright yellow moon in the distance. I walked up to the blue pool and knelt down, letting my hands enter and swish around the refreshing liquid.
Abruptly, a million fireflies came rushing out of the lake. The light blinded me for a short time as I looked up in wonder. Then, they plucked me up off of the green grass, leaving small kisses all over my face. I laughed in pure delight as they put me down slowly on the soft grass below. They gradually formed into people; people I didn't know and also people I was acquainted with.
"Would you care to dance?" a small girl asked as she held her hand out to me. Her fireflies showed a bright golden light as she beamed sweetly at me. I nodded my head hesitantly. We both started dancing. I tried to make conversation with her, but she only said a few phrases and often mentioned her parents. "Thank you!" she tittered as she waved goodbye. She then went dancing elsewhere. I followed after her. I eventually found her dancing with another girl her age. There was a red string connecting their fingers.
"Soulmates..." I murmured to myself as bubbles formed out of my mouth. It was as if I was under water. I started coughing frantically. It was as if something was invading my space.
The last thing I heard was, "Would you like to dance?"
...
I awoke panting and coughing.
"Are you okay, Everest?" Annabelle asked holding my shoulder. I stared up at her. There was now a red string on her finger. The string led out the window.
"Yeah, I'm okay," I assured her and the rest of our roommates.
"Are you sure? You were coughing pretty hard," Jazzy pointed out. I nodded. I got out of my twin bed and headed toward the bathroom.
I looked in the mirror. I had bags under my eyes and chapped pink lips. I started coughing again as I bent over the sink. As I coughed, ten fireflies came out of my mouth. I fell backward onto the floor as I looked at the lightning bugs in horror. My skin glowed purple before the Stark band shocked my wrist. Then, they disappeared.
...
I was heading toward my first chore, cleaning up the Inventor's Garage. It was the worst job because you'd definitely get injured in some way or form.
"Is anyone in here?" I called out as I entered the room.
"Oh uh ... am I not supposed to be in here?" a voice asked. I turned the corner and saw Peter. My face turned a soft pink as my gold eyes met his brown orbs.
"No, no! It's okay, I just have to clean!" I rambled.
"Oh, okay. My name's Peter, Peter Parker. What's yours?" Peter asked.
"Uh, my name is uh ... Everest," I replied. My face turned a darker shade of pink as I became even more embarrassed. My skin glowed a light shade of green, then I felt the shock. "Ow," I muttered under my breath.
"Oh, so you're one of the inhumans, right?" Peter guessed. I nodded my head as held my wrist. "So what classes are you in? I haven't seen you in any of mine so far."
"Oh, inhumans don't get to go to classes because we're not considered human," I explained, "So, instead we get chores." I look down at my shoes for quite a while, then looked back up at him. I saw a red string on his finger, it went through the wall to the outside world. I looked at my own finger; no red string. Why does everybody have the red string, except for me?
