"I'm sorry," I said as I heaved a sigh. "Tuesdays are supposed to be good days, but I made every single one terrible for you."
"If you're truly sorry, you'll leave me and my problems alone," he said his back turned away from me. His soul. I could see it cracking. Bit by bit. I breathed in and out.
"Sorry, Mr. Stark, but I can't do that," I said determinedly. Mr. Stark deserved happiness. Even if just for a little bit. He needs to be happy, even if that means sacrificing my happiness.
"I'll leave you alone today, but I'll save you and your soul someday. Whether you like it or not, I'll fix you," I said, "I'll become a hero."
I walked out of the library. I could feel Loki following me.
"Why would you want to save someone like him?" he asked into my ear.
"Everyone deserves happiness, Loki. I also can't not feel partly responsible for his slowly breaking soul," I whispered back. I could now see Loki, but I assumed nobody else could.
"Never change, sister," he said as he petted my hair, "Where are we going anyway?"
"My dorm," I said, "I have a feeling Doc will be back soon."
"Who is this Doctor you speak so fondly of?" he asks crossing his arms as we walked. He looked somewhat jealous of Doc even though he hadn't met him yet.
"Is Loki jealous?" I ask as I began walking backward with a smirk spread across my face.
"I-I am not!" he declared.
We entered my dorm to Doc waiting for me.
"Ah, finally- WHAT?!" Doc suddenly yelled as Loki entered the room. He grabbed a hold of my waist pulling me back. "Get away from him!" he yelled. He began making the portal under Loki.
"Wait! Stop!" I yelled, "He's my brother! He won't hurt anyone!"
"Is this true?" he asks.
"Yes, I'm her brother," he responds out of breath.
After long talks about me, while I couldn't even get a word in, they came to an agreement.
"You'll go back to Asgard, inform Thor of Everest, then he will decide if you can have contact with her," Doc said. I, however, did not like this plan. I knew Thor would highly disagree with having contact with me.
"But-" I tried to cut in.
"Deal," Loki agreed. They shook hands and Loki went through Doc's portal.
"Why didn't I get to say anything about this? Thor's obviously going to say no," I groaned. I flopped onto my bed.
"I'm sorry, but he is the God of Mischief and Lies," Doc said as he began rubbing circles into my back.
...
It was the end of Family Month. Everybody would be coming back the next day. Doc assured me that I'd see Loki again someday, probably just with Thor supervising.
I decided to go talk to Mr. Stark. I no longer cared about the words he said to me, I cared more about his well being than my own actually.
"Hey, Mr. Stark," I said as I walked into his office. He grumbled in response. He had an art tablet next to him and a stylus. Maybe he was working on new Iron Man suit designs? "What are you working on?" I asked as I casually stepped over to his desk.
My hair was in two long braids with ribbons at the end of them. I wore denim overalls with my Stark Industries long sleeve underneath. I also wore my fuzzy cat socks, but no shoes. Who needs shoes when you have fuzzy cat socks?
He looked up at me as I tilted my head a little, waiting for an answer. "You're really trying aren't you? Well, let's get this straight. You have an inhibitor on so your powers won't work. Meaning that you are physically unable of brainwashing me," he said to me, "Also, I know that Peter Parker is under your brainwashing from when you two were little. I also know that Bruce would disable your inhibitor during Family Month, so that's probably when you brainwashed him. Do I need to go on?"
The words hit pretty hard that time. I couldn't ignore them. I didn't brainwash them! Especially not Peter! I can't even brainwash people!
"Don't," I murmured, "I would never hurt Peter or Doctor Banner!" I yelled at him. His eyes went wide. He had never heard me yell like I was in pain. Sure, I had yelled at him, but not like that. Not to the point I was glowing red.
Then, I got electrocuted. Tears filled my eyes as I stared angrily at him. He had no right to say that! I would never intentionally hurt anyone!
I stormed out of his office.
...
It was the day they'd all be returning. Finally. I wouldn't have to face Mr. Stark alone anymore. I waited in the lobby for my friends.
I looked down at my fuzzy penguin socks happily. I was smiling ear to ear by myself. I guess I didn't realize how much I missed everyone!
"Hey, Everest!" somebody said. I looked up and it was Peter! My cheeks turned a bright pink as my eyes went wide. My skin shined a bright pink as I looked at him, then it stopped for the obvious reason.
"H-hi, Peter," I stammered, "H-how was your break?"
"It was fun! Ned and I had a Star Wars marathon, and we got invited to a lot of parties!" he seemed to glow out of happiness. "We also saw Spider-Man! Do you know who that is?" he asked.
"I think so. Though I've only heard stories from other people," I answered.
"Well, he has these really cool spider powers! He can shoot webs, climb walls and is super strong!" he explained to me. There was excitement prominent in his voice. He reminded me of a little kid.
"And he's saved the world like twice now!" he seemed to be bragging, but whatever. I giggled at his antics. "What's so funny?" he asked.
"It's just that, when we were little, you had always dreamt of being a superhero just like Mr. Stark!" I giggled at the memory, "I'm glad you still somewhat held onto that dream!"
I could've sworn I saw his cheeks turn a brighter shade of pink and his pupils dilate.
I continued giggling at the memory of seven-year-old Peter running around the playground saying he was Iron Boy and I was his sidekick Firefly!
We continued chatting. Peter had actually come pretty early, so we had about thirty minutes of it just being us.
"I heard we're getting a new student," he mentioned, "Let's just hope they like inhumans."
"Yeah. We don't want another Fawn, do we?" I giggled, but then realized what I had said. I had completely forgotten that Fawn was his girlfriend. "Sorry! It's just that-"
"It's fine," he cut me off, "I broke up with her after Thanksgiving dinner. By the way, why weren't you there? Your friends were very worried." He frowned at me.
"Uh, I've been working on something in secret and I thought that that was the perfect opportunity to work on it," I awkwardly chuckled as I rubbed the back of my neck.
"Really?! Can I see it?!" he excitedly asked. I giggled happy giggles as I nodded.
