Tess pov- For as long as she could remember she pretty much lived her life in darkness. This may sound like a dream come true for some people. But for her it was more like a nightmare when she found out she was allergic to light exposure. She couldn't stay out in the sun for more then ten minutes at a time without feeling like someone was setting her on fire. Even on a cloudy day, there's enough ultraviolet light to cause blistering which is as painful as it sounded.

She was a normal child until she was five years old. Shortly after she turned six her parents took her to the doctors after they noticed that their daughter had a strange rash that didn't get better no matter what they did. That when the doctors diagnosed her with EPP ( honestly the medical term is way to long and to difficult to pronounce ). The doctors said people with EPP are chronically anemic, which makes them feel very tired and look very pale with increased photo sensitivity because they can't come out in the daylight. Her parents drug her to every doctor in the state hoping for a different out come for their daughter. It was hard for her parents to accept that there was something wrong with their daughters health and that they wouldn't have that prefect  white picket fence life style they always dreamed about.

Tess had to start being home schooled since the school said their was no safe way for her to attend. She would spend the day doing her school work and as soon as the sun went down she was allowed to go outside and play. Her parents always had to keep a close eye on her to make sure she wasn't over doing it. They watched as their daughter spent her childhood alone, because by the time it was safe for her to go outside all the other kids in the neighborhood were already inside for the night. They even tried taking her to the park a few time but the kids that where still there playing didn't want anything to do with her because of how pale she was. The next few years she watched as other kids inched away from her like they were going to get what she had if they got to close to her.

(A few years has pasted)

A way to know you that your labeled a  sick patient is when your local hospital knows you by name as soon as you walk in the door. She is now ten years old and has had maybe 6 blood transfusions so far. The doctors told her parents that its something that will become normal in her life. Most people with EPP have to get blood transfusions one or two times a year but it all depends on the person. Her parents always keep a prepacked bag in the car for the hospital visits that was full of clothes and a book and other things to keep her busy while she was there. Every time she went for a blood transfusion she knew she would have to stay a night or two, the nurses always had to keep a close eye on her to make sure her body didn't reject the new blood. So far that's only happened to her once and that was her very first trip, she started running a high fever which gave every one a scare and ended up having to stay in the hospital for a  whole week. Then once she was released  If everything went the way they should she would be put on bed rest for a few days so her body could heal.

When she got into her preteen years Tess only wanted to wear dark colors. It wasn't like she was trying to be goth or anything. She just felt like the style matched her pale skin tone. Her parents used to call this her Vampire phase since that't all she wanted to watch and read about. There wasn't a movie or book that she ain't seen or read.  Her parents didn't like that their daughter had an obsession with vampires  and spooky supernatural stuff like that. They didn't understand that type of stuff so it was a topic they didn't bring up and if she started talking about vampires they would change the subject.

They lived in a small town so once the sun went down their wasn't much for Tess to do. She spent a lot of her time walking thru the graveyard or just roaming the streets. On some nights she would take her stretch pad to the park and sit on the swings and draw. She would draw the moon and stars and grave stones that she thought were pretty looking.
