Prom was almost over. They had danced for hours and finished dinner when everything went off the rails. "Hey! Everyone! Look at the " I, as a narrator, cannot even let myself say the word that bully used to describe my poor babies Cheryl and Toni. The room froze.
"What the fuck did you just say?" Archie lunged at the boy. Yelling filled the hall. The students became a wall between the staff and Archie. Toni held Cheryl back.
"Archie!!!" Veronica screamed. Archie punched and punched, refusing to stop. All the blood was invisible on his red tuxedo. The boy below him was almost unconscious.
"Archie!" Jughead shouted. The dance floor turned into a zone of chaos. Jughead tried to pull him off of him. "Archie, look at me!!!" Archie ignored him. "Archie!" Jughead screamed. Archie's attention snapped up to Jughead. "Get off him Arch." Archie let Jughead pull him up. Suddenly, Principal Weatherby was standing on the stage.
"Oh shit." Reggie growled. Toni let go of Cheryl.
"My office!" Weatherby yelled.
——-
Archie watched the chaos in Principal Weatherby's office, where he had sit just months before, hearing the worst news of his life. Now, it was full of people both defending and attacking him. Jughead and Toni were in the back of the room since they weren't Riverdale High students. Meanwhile, Weatherby was interrogating Reggie, Veronica, Cheryl, the boy, and about twenty others. Finally, everyone but their group were gone.
"Listen Archie." Weatherby began. Everyone held their breaths. "I understand why you were angry. What that boy said was unacceptable." He paused, choosing his next words carefully. "But you have to know, you cannot attack another student the way you did." Archie stared at the ground. Weatherby turned to Cheryl. "Cheryl, Toni, I want you to give out that boy's punishment, since you were the ones targeted." They nodded, not saying a word. "Can you all wait out in the hall while I decide Archie's punishment?" They filed out.
"Archie," Veronica said, softly. "What happened?"
"You almost killed that kid." Jughead said a little too harshly.
"I don't know. Something inside me, just, snapped." Archie sighed. "I'm gonna get expelled, aren't I?"
"Maybe not." Reggie nudged him.
"Why don't you guys head home?" I ruined the night anyways." Archie said.
"Are you kidding me?" Toni spoke for the first time since the fight. She made Archie look at her. "That kid deserved it. You didn't ruin tonight, he did." When Archie didn't say anything, she continued. "We had an awesome time before it and now, you'll always be the one who defended my honor at prom." Toni smiled at him.
"She's right, Arch." Cheryl spoke up. "You are the best brother a girl could ask for, I love you so much." She hugged him.
"I love you, too." They waiter there for a while before Reggie slipped out the back.

"Are you okay?" Veronica appeared next to him. She leaned on the railing next to him, above the football field. It was completely lit even though no one was on it. Those lights barely lit where they stood.
"It doesn't matter." Reggie replied.
"Of course it does."
"I mean, tonight was fun, but..."
"But what?" Veronica asked. He looked up at her. She smiled as he stared.
"I'm the third wheel. Like always."
"That's not true."
"Yeah, it kind of is. Think about it, Me and Cheryl used to be best friends. Then, she made the cheerleading squad and suddenly I talk with her once a week. Then she meets Toni, and now I'm actually a third wheel." Reggie shakes his head. "Me and Archie are friends until he meets Betty and then you and then Jughead. Me and Jason," Reggie stopped. Veronica leaned on his shoulder.
"Well, if it helps, I think you deserve to never be the third wheel. But that's not realistic. We all are third wheels to some people." She let her gaze wander out to the woods past the football field. Reggie studied her face.
"What?" She asked. Before he could reply, she leaned in close to his face.
"You are beautiful." He whispered. Slowly, he lightly kissed her. She leaned back on his shoulder.
"You're welcome to come back to my place after this." She whispered. "My parents are out of town." He pulled her into another kiss, this time, a long and passionate one.
"Guys!" The school doors opened behind them. "Oh!" Cheryl gasped. They both squinted at the school's fluorescent lights.
"Well, Archie, Archie's not, he's not expelled." Cheryl stuttered. "Am I interrupting something?" Veronica quickly shook her head.
"Let's go dance!" Reggie smiled and let Veronica take his hand as they hurried inside.
