"Were you not busy?" Two pairs of eyes glared at us and we stopped walking.
"Alice." I said but stopped again when I saw Nate coming behind her.
Nate looked at our hands and I took my hand out of Mason's.
"Yes, Elena?" I did not know what to say. "You should have told us that you want to hangout with him and not us."
"Alice, it's not like that."
"Let it be." She walked away. I looked at Nate. He and Mason were having a staring competition.
"Nate." I called him. His eyes softened for a moment but they got sad again. I did not like this. He was sad because of me and it made me sad. I stepped towards him but he too walked away.
I felt a hand in my shoulder.
"Let's go from here." Mason said and I nodded.
We left the park and got settled in the car."You wanna eat something?" Mason asked me.
"No. Let's go home." Mason did not say anything and started driving.
I kept on looking outside. I don't know why but that look in Nate's eyes made me feel really sad.
I wish I hadn't lied to him.I closed my eyes and rested my head on the window.
After a while I felt someone calling my name and I woke up.
I looked around and it was Mason.
"We have reached." I blinked my eyes and looked outside. I don't know when did I fall asleep.
"You are coming inside?" I asked Mason.
"I have called my driver. He'd be here anytime.
"Alright. You can wait inside till then."
"Yeah. Need to change as well." I nodded and we got out of the car and entered the home.I went to my room and Mason went to the guest room where he left his clothes last night. I looked at my watch. It was 6:30 already. Mom and Dad would be here anytime. I heard a knock on my door.
"Can I come in?" Mason asked me.
"Yeah. Sure." I was going through my stuff when he knocked.
"You okay? You look disturbed."
"No. I am okay." I didn't look at him while saying this. I am still trying to figure out why am I feeling so bad and why looking at Nate liked that made me feel sad.I stepped away. "I am making coffee. Will you have some?" I changed the topic.
"Alright." He said. I nodded and left.I prepared two cups of coffee. Not trying to think about all that. I tried to remember all the good moments that Mason and I had today. After such a long time we were like this. No worries. No sadness. We both were so happy together. That brought a smile on my face. I looked at the soft toy on the sofa and smiled again.
I picked up the cups and went to my room.
"Mason." I called him. He turned around after a few seconds. His face was all serious.
I put the cups on the table and walked towards him.
"Is everything okay?" He just looked at me.
"Mason? You are scaring me. Please say something."
"What is this?" He asked referring to the paper that was in his hand.
I took the paper and started reading it."It was all dark
Yet everything was lighted up
Coz I had you by side and
You were everything I wanted.
Twinning and spinning together
Even in that chaos I could hear your heartbeat.
My every step matching your move
We two just had a perfect groove.
A smile on my face,
Twinkle in your eyes,
We were so happy to be by each other's side,
But the bitter truth is that you will never be mine.
Coz you are that dream that i forgot to wish on my fist.
You came around like a song and
Engulfed me in your melody,
Don't worry i'm not foolish to make it my reality."It was a poem that I wrote for Nate when we first danced together. It was the first time that I danced with someone like that. It was a special day for me at that time but it was years ago.
"Who is this for?" Mason asked me.
"How did you get this paper?" I asked him.
"You did not answer my question."
"You did not answer mine."
"Is it for Nate?"
"Mason, how did you get it?"
"It was on the floor. Alright? I thought it might be something important so I picked it up but.. Well, What can I say now."
I was quite. This is not good.
"Elena, do you still like him?"
"Mason."
"Yes or no?" I couldn't say anything. It was stupid. I know but suddenly Nate's face came in my mind. The day when he told me that he has feelings for me. Then on the day of the shoot the way he was looking at me or today at the amusement park... I just couldn't say no.
"You don't have to say anything. I got my answer."
He was angry at me but why? It is not like we were together.
"You have no right to be angry with me."
He looked at me. "You are right. I should leave now."
"Again?" I did not think before saying that. It was a spontaneous reaction.
He stared at me then went out of the room. His phone buzzed.
"Great. I am coming." It must be his driver. He turned around for the last time and went out of the door.Just then my parents arrived.
"Was that Mason?" Dad asked. He was not happy.
"Dad." I hugged him.
"We will talk about this later but can we just sit and talk right now?"
"Sure. We can." Mom said.
They told me about there stay. I was happy that they enjoyed a lot. We later ordered some food from the outside for the dinner.
Around 11, I went to my room.
I changed clothes and picked that paper again. I read the poem that I wrote for Nate and put that aside after that.
'Can this be possible that I like Nate even now?' I thought.
'No. It can't be. It was long ago but why could not I say no then.' I turned around in the bed. I was getting restless.
'If I would have said no, all this would not have happened but I could not do that.'
The question is 'Why?' 'What is happening to me?'
