Chapter 51

I was waiting at the park for him to come. It has been more than an hour but he has not come yet. May be Shanaya was right. Why would anyone wait for me forever, right? I decided to wait more. I have to keep patience. I looked at my watch then towards the gate. I looked away. Damn it and suddenly I saw a familiar face coming towards me. A huge smile came over my face.

I stood up and he came towards me. He stopped right in front of me.
"I almost thought you wouldn't come."

"I thought the same but.."

"But?"

"As you can see I changed my mind."

"Thank you, Nate. It means a lot. Shall we sit?"

"Sure."

"So? Where were you?"

"Lost but finally I am on track."

"Meaning?"

"I am sorry, Nate. I really am."

"Elena, don't.."

"No. Let me speak today, please. I am sorry for all this. It happened because I could not decide what my heart wants. I messed up everything. It feels as if I was playing with your feelings but not anymore."

"So you have made your decision?"

I nodded.

"Let's hear it out then."

I looked at him. Thinking how shall I put everything in words. I took a long deep breathe and started speaking.

"Nate, I love you. I really do but.."

"But"

I closed my eyes. "Like a friend." I looked at him, into his eyes. He was hurt.

"Nate.."

"I guess I knew it already so it's not a surprise."

"You are amazing, Nate. You can have any girl in this world, you can."

"Except you." He interjected.

"I guess I am not mine anymore." I spoke softly. "I am sorry."

"No. You should not feel sorry about it. It is your decision and we have to  respect it."

"Can we remain friends?"

"Sure but give me some time, Elena."

"You take your time. I will wait for you."

We stood up. Not knowing what to do. I took a step forward and hugged him. He hugged me back.

"Thank you, Nate, for listening to me and understanding me. You can take as much time as you want but I seriously don't want to lose a friend like you. As I said, I will wait and whenever you are ready just text me."

"I will." He kissed me on my forehead and I closed my eyes. This doesn't feel good but it's necessary to do so. I can't keep on playing with other people's feelings.

"So you are going to tell him now?" Nate asked.

"Yeah but I am scared."

"Why?"

"What if he doesn't want me back?  What if he says no?"

"He won't." He smiled at me. "Only a fool would do that." I smiled at him.

I don't know when will we see each other after this.

"Goodbye, Elena." I could sense the tears in my eyes as I heard those words.

"Bye, Nate. Good luck." One last look and he left. No turning back.

I stayed there for a few minutes. I hope I will meet him soon.

With that thought I finally left.

I came back home. The talking with Nate is done but now it's time for Mason. I took a deep breath and dialed his number. He did not pick up my call. Twice he did not. Shall I go to his place? No. That will be too much. I called him again and left him a message. I invited him to the same restaurant where he took me after we came back from Mexico.

I reached there at 7 and started waiting again. I was nervous. Very nervous. I don't know. What if doesn't come? What if he comes, listens to what I want to say and leave without a word? What if he says no to me? What if he doesn't want to be with me anymore? So many questions were roaming in my mind.

All my thoughts came to an end when I saw a shadow of someone coming towards me. His blue grey orbs shining. My breath got stuck in my throat. I hope everything goes my way today.
