Rai Kusanagi was a fifth teen year old kid from the U.S. He was of African American and Asian decent, his father being African American and his mother being Asian. He had a big sister named Sasha and had amazingly powerful quirks, the ability to use lightning and the ability to evolve his lightning and use it in many ways as time progressed. For a while he loved his powers and everything that came with it.
But as time went on he started to regret having these powers as he grew up. He went to a school were only six other kids like him had quirks while the rest of the school basically out right outcast him as a freak. All the students who weren't lucky to have quirks had made fun of him, tried to get him expelled by trying to bully him and the others into using their powers and play pranks on them.
Rai had tried so hard for years to not let the kids at school get on his nerves and ignore them with less success. There was one time were a student had dumped mud on his new shoes his mom had bought him for his eighth birthday and he told on the kid. While that problem was dealt with, the student's friends decided to make Rai pay for getting him into trouble, they ruthlessly beat Rai to the point where he was giving permanent scar on his left hand and right arm.
There was also the time during Valentine's Day where a girl had asked him to play with her during lunch. Sad part was that he liked this girl and she didn't seem to mind that he had a quirk, he was so wrong. She asked him to meet up with her after school because she wanted to tell him something. What Rai had gotten was a surprise sand dumping on him by the girl and her three friends. He was so hurt that he had faked sick for four days, he was that upset and heart broken....bitches man.
His home life was pretty stable, his sister was like most big sisters, protective of him, encouraged him to keep going on in life, and never hesitated to spoil him from time to time. His mother was a gym fitness trainer and the best at cooking almost anything. His father.....his father was a pro hero, the lightning hero ShockWave. He mainly worked in Japan and visited his family when he had the time and always encouraged Rai to carry on with his dreams and to never let them die.
Rai had loved his father so much and admired his work to the point where he wanted to live with his dad in Japan. For a while it was wishful thinking and he began to believe he'd never leave his hometown. But that all changed when he got in a fight with a kid at school for messing with his homemade lunch his mother made for him.
That was the last straw for Rai and the kid had felt every bit of his anger towards the other students. It wasn't that bad, just a little lightning charged punch to the kids face that brunt his whole cheek. Rai was later sent home for the incident and given a three days suspension. At that point Rai had had enough of the students' bullshit. He couldn't take it anymore and he wanted to be born quirkless, just so people wouldn't look at him as a freak.
Rai had went home and got a scolding from his mother while his sister, upset at the fact he was given a harsh punishment but glad that he stood up for himself, decided to buy him one of his favorite video games to cheer him up. On the last day of his suspension his father had came home with surprising news that he couldn't believe at first. They were moving to Japan.
Rai's life after that did a complete 180 once he got there. He had a new home, one where almost everyone was like him and he even had got a chance to meet the number one pro hero All Might. His father and All Might had been friends during high school, forming a brotherly relationship to the point where Rai was able to call him Uncle Yagi and even found out about All Might's secret behind his awesome powers. He also went to a school were everyone was like him.....well.....almost everyone.
