Eragon~

We. Had. Nothing. Even after another few hours of thinking, talking, going over everything we had, we were completely and utterly lost. Murtagh and I fought a bit more, and even the dragons seemed to be getting short of temper. We were lost.

I didn't know what to do. I had nothing on this problem...even Roran would have been able to come up with something by now.

I noticed because i was looking at the sky. I was looking out, onto the water. When I saw. I saw the speck. A small, tiny dot, way out on the sea. The dot grew bigger, and it gained a color. Green. Green like dragonscale.

"Is that...Fírnen?" Murtagh whispered.

"I think so." I replied. The four of us watched as Fírnen came closer to us. He was flying extremely low, maybe only twenty or so feet above the water, as he flew his wingtips skimmed the surface of the sea.

Soon he was at the island, and I spied Arya in the saddle. What puzzled me was the fact that she had someone else with her.

"Oh lovely, Angela." Murtagh said sarcastically.

Firnen landed a few dozen feet away from us, and shook his wings, causing water droplets to scatter. Arya leapt down with ease, and was then followed by Angela. Even Solembum was here, Angela had been holding him for the flight here.

Angela was the one who ran up first, Solembum running behind her. Her face was slightly red, and she seemed anxious.

"So sorry for arriving without the warning, now where are the seven?" She said.

"It depends. We don't know-" I began.

"They're scattered." Murtagh finished. I glanced at him for a moment, before returning my gaze to Angela.

"So its already happened...do you at least have the amulets?"

"No..they're back in Doru Areaba..we fled when it-"

"When what happened? Tell me exactly and don't leave out a single bit!" Angela said. Arya had lingered at the edge, before going to Firnen.

"The phoenix came out of the volcano. It did something to their minds..and then they all shifted and fled. It even affected the dragons, as if they went mad."

"Of course it affected all of them..." She sighed before continuing. "Why don't we all sit down so I can explain and tell you what you need to do?"

I sat down next to Murtagh. Arya across from us, while the dragons were behind us, shielding us. Angela was standing, Solembum was actually sunning himself on a rock a few feet away. We were all silent.

"Now then...I know how to fix this, but first you must understand the basics. Each of them has an amulet, which is an object of great power, some of the most powerful objects ever created. Have you been told what they do?"

"We haven't." I said.

"Then it's likely they don't know or they don't want you to, for some reason. All of the amulets were created by their mother, each for a specific child of hers. You do know their heritage by now, right?"

I knew their father, but not their mother.

"I know the father. So does Murtagh."

"I do not." Arya said quietly. "Is it necessary?"

"It is. Their father was Galbatorix. He had the majority of the Eldunarí in his possesion, as well as being a dragon rider. A rider for a father was enough to gift each of you alone, Eragon and Murtagh. But adding the fact that their mother was a strong magician with werecat blood, that adds even more to the mix."
