Iara~

The Phoenix was gone...it was over. Back on shore, we celebrated. The next few months were spent rebuilding the castle and adding whole new wings to the castle, as well as a food store building.

The Vault of Souls stayed between Eragon, Murtagh, Arya and I. Until we had a building built to house the eggs, they would remain in safety inside The Vault.

In total, it was as if we were beginning a new city. The old city was left alone out of respect and honor for our predecessors, but it was still amazing.

Arya and Murtagh had both remained on the island with us during the reconstruction, I honestly had no idea if they were even going to leave. Arya spent vast amounts of time exploring the Old City. I understood how she felt. When I was little and we were done with the day's lessons, Eragon used to take Marumen and I there, where we would run among the ruins for hours.

Winter struck with a cold fury. It was as if the extremely long summer had only given Winter time to build up his energy, before sweeping down from the stars with a wild fury.

The snow drifted up until it reached the bottom of the familar glass windows. We were in the dining hall, in chairs gathered around the fireplace. Every night, everyone would sit around the fire and listen to stories, passed down by Eragon, Arya and Murtagh.

Angela had hidden out in the city during the final battle with The Phoenix, so she even had a few tales of her own. The one she told first was a tale about a dragon who flew over the Beor Mountains, and his scales turned to diamonds.

At the mention of the diamond scales, Grimm snorted. If you find a dragon with diamond scales, tell me. He had said.

Everything was so peaceful. I hadn't felt so...happy, in quite a long time. No worries, just relaxing with my family.

Being around the fire made me realize how few we were....in total, there were only ten dragon riders in Alagaesia. How lonely Eragon must have felt when he was the only one.

When spring came, it brough rain and life. Buds dotted the tree branches, and flowers filled the forests. Much more of our time and energy, for all of us, was spent cleansing the island even more of the poison that remained.

Healing the plants and cleaning the water was another step towards a brighter future for any more dragon riders who would join us.

Later in spring, Eragon had a surprise for all of us. Only he, Murtagh and Arya knew. It was something big, and once they told us about it, I realized it was what they had always been talking about.

The only thing they told us was that everyone would be heading to Ilirea, and that we were to see the queen. So, after a week of preparing and Eragon making arrangements, we left Vroengard behind and flew back to Alagaesia.
