Eragon~
Now we knew the amulet's true abilities. Bringing back the dead...wasn't that supposed to be impossible? All of my career as a magic user had centered around two rules.
One. Don't do anything you don't have enough energy to fulfill.
Two. Don't ever try to bring back the dead.
What we had all seen violated both of those two rules. What seemed set in stone crumbled away at the sight of life. How...It only made me think if somehow it were possible with Brom.
Eragon, don't. You don't need to dwell on that while we are dealing with the situation at hand.
I know Saphira..I can't help it.
Just imagine rebuilding the castle ten times better.
That just makes me remember how it's broken.
Eragon. Stop. Go down to the beach and clear your mind for a minute. Don't think about tomorrow.
Fine.
I got up and dusted off my leggings. Murtagh wasn't by the fire, and Arya was sitting down staring into the flames.
"Murtagh and Luke are down there too." Arya said.
"Are you coming?" I asked.
"I'll stay here."
"Alright." I turned away and began to walk towards the beach. It wasn't far, I could see the waves from the campfire. The first thing I saw was Murtagh and Luke sitting next to each other on the sand. It was dark, but they seemed to be debating something.
I went over and sat down behind them. Luke looked behind at me, and then grinned.
"Ah, Eragon's here now. Ok, so Eragon, who do you think would win, me, Mikael or Dru?"
"Why, exactly?"
"Because we have to think for tomorrow."
"I don't even want to think about tomorrow.."
"Why not? We finally get to kill that stupid bird and everyone will be ok."
"What happens if one of the dragons gets hurt? They can't come back."
"Well then only we could go. But still, who would win?" He insisted I answer.
"Murtagh, what do you think?" I asked.
Murtagh sighed and looked over.
"Honestly? I think each of you would tire each other out so you couldn't lift a sword. It would be a three way tie."
"What! No, I would so totally win!" Luke complained.
"You have to find your brothers first...wherever they are on this island."
"Aren't we doing that tomorrow?" Luke talked as if it was no big deal. Maybe not seeming to care was his way of dealing with the harsh reality of what we had to do.
"Yes...we are.." I sighed.
"Who kills who?" Murtagh said quietly.
"What?" Luke said.
"Who. Kills. Who. Right now its five versus six. Not counting the dragons. Six people have to die tomorrow...and it's likely we're going to have to deal with one or more of the dragons as well."
"So..." Luke asked.
"One of us has to kill two." Murtagh pointed out.
"I'll take care of Dru and Mikael." Luke said. At the end of the sentence he seemed to choke up, and suddenly he looked away from us and at the sea, not meeting our gazes.
"I will take care of Alice and Luna." Arya said. She had come down to the beach as well, and she sat down next to me. Angela was sitting by the fire still. "Angela and I have been talking about the same thing. She is going to help hold off the dragons. Solembum will come with us."
"I doesn't even matter..let's all just stay in a group." Murtagh said.
"No. We have to split up. If we don't we won't be able to get everyone else." I said. Luke was still silent.
"Guys...how about we decide tomorrow?" Luke said.
