Eragon~
Now...we only had to find Iara. According to what Marumen had told us, she was somewhere in the Old Forest. That was far from helpful, that region made up nearly half the island.
Which would take forever to search. So, in an effort to save time, we sent Marumen, Luna, Mikael, Luke and Arya, along with their respective dragons, to search the area of the island where she was last seen.
Myself, Murtagh, Alice and Dru would go over the city. All of us would make our way to higher ground as we went, and if we didn't find her by air we'd have to search on foot.
The latter would take months, so we were betting everything on the first idea. That morning everyone had been tense, and ready for anything to happen. There was no wind, and the forest was a deadly silent.
With barely any conversation we were off, Saphira and Thorn taking to the sky first, Giligan and Lothlorien behind us.
The sky was hazy, a painful reminder of what we were facing. Every wingbeat was harder because of it, the air was thick and hot.
Eragon I don't like this.
I don't like it very much either...but it's probably our only chance to stop the phoenix before it ends up doing whatever it still needs Iara for.
I don't have any idea what it could be, you don't either. You might as well ready your sword. You do have it, as well as her amulet?
Of course I do. The amulet was tucked in a pocket on my jacket, and my sword was at my waist.
Good. You'll probably need both.
I already know I will.
With a sudden snarl, Thorn halted mid-flight and looked down upon the city. It was unexpected, so he and Saphira nearly crashed.
"Murtagh, what was that?" I yelled over the wind.
"Take a look!" He yelled back, and pointed down at the city. So I did. And it was with great pain that I spied the end of a great, black tail.
The sight sent a wave of anxiety through me.
Saphira....
I know. It's time.
It always was.
But that was just words. Now let's do this.
Grimm somehow sensed we were there, and pulled his tail into the forest where the rest of him seemed to be.
Thorn held back, letting Saphira go ahead. Behind him flew Lothlorien, with Giligan bringing up the rear. A great crashing was heard, as it seemed Grimm ran through the forest.
But that didn't make sense. Marumen had claimed Iara was in the Old Forest. Unless..Grimm and Iara were seperated. Everyone else had been apart from their dragon, why not them?
"Murtagh, did you see Iara there?" He looked down one last time.
"No, I didn't."
"Then we should keep an eye on Grimm, but we need to find her first!"
"Alright, fine! How about we split up, everyone take a direction?"
"Sounds good!" Saphira began to head.north, while Murtagh told Alice and Dru.
Grimm remained in the forest, heading north east. In between where Murtagh and I had chosen to go. If he was to fight it would be in our favor...a smaller dragon, against dragons twice his size that had been in war? The victor would be obvious. But you could never tell.
