It was a rainy morning in the middle of April. David stood in front of his bedroom mirror as he adjusted his tie whilst heavily sighing to himself. He was a successful 37 year old man who was CEO of a million dollar company he started by himself. He had everything anybody could ever want, he had the life most men dreamed of having but he still wasn't satisfied. He combed his hair back before turning to look back at his wife; Kim who sat far across the room whilst applying her make up. They got married 17 years ago, shortly after they had their son Jay. It was a marriage that everyone looked up to, people idolised them because of their wealth, but that spark that they once had was long gone, that mutual love they once felt as they announced their vows on their wedding day had continuously disappeared, and they had quickly became strangers.
Kim quickly put away her make up, before grabbing her handbag of the desk and getting up from her seat. "David, when are you going to look into getting a nanny for Stephanie?" she questioned referring to their five year old Daughter. "You don't expect me to stay at home and look after her do you, I work just as much as you do, and we both know Jay is incapable of looking after her as he's rarely ever home" she groaned before placing her hand on her hips.
"I'll look into it Kim, I'm just really busy at the office right now" said David, turning back around to finish fixing his tie.
Kim rolled her eyes away and put on her dark shades before turning to exit out of their bedroom. As David listened to the sound of her heels clicking in the hallway, he pushed his head back and let out a deep sigh. This was how it always was with them every morning, it didn't feel like she was with wife, but simply his business partner, who he only spoke to to discuss something significant. Who knew that having two kids would put such a strain on their marriage.
A short while later after recollecting himself, David walked out of the bedroom and headed straight to his Daughter's bedroom which was down the hall. He knocked lightly on the door before slowly opening it and stepping inside to see her fluttering her eyes open and he couldn't help but smile to himself. Even after all the destruction that came with this family, his Daughter was the one thing he knew he was most proudest off. Growing up, he always thought that he needed to achieve something great in life to be happy, but his real happiness came with his Daughter and she was indeed his greatest achievement.
"Good morning Princess, did you sleep well?" he smiled going over to sit beside her on her bed.
She gazed up at him with her big brown eyes and nodded her head before lifting her head up from her pillow. "Daddy, can I ask you a question?" she spoke delicately in her little quiet voice, causing him to arch a brow in confusion. "Are you and mommy gonna get a divorce?" she asked, whilst tiredly rubbing her eyes.
He stared down at her for a brief while not knowing what to say. Even though him and Kim's marriage was as good as dead, he never thought of getting a divorce and neither did she. They both knew that everything they had built for the past 17 years would be ultimately destroyed if they did, so it was better to remain as they were, not only for the sake of their children, but for their image to. "Mommy and I aren't gonna get a divorce... I don't want you thinking about that kinda stuff okay?" he answered, placing a kiss on top of her head.
"Jay said that you didn't love each other anymore and- and you're only staying together because of me" she said as he tried his hardest not to roll his eyes away.
"Don't listen to anything your big brother tells you okay, he doesn't know what he's talking about" David muttered before rapidly lifting her up from the bed, causing her to giggle. "Now lets go make you breakfast before Daddy drops you of at the neighbours and heads of to work" he smiled wrapping his arms around her, whilst heading towards the direction of her bedroom door.
