A month had quickly went by, leaving things more complicated and perplexing as it was before.

David sat behind his desk in his office as his board of directors sat around him, discussing business plans, but he paid no attention to them what so ever. It had been a week since him and Kim had finalised their divorce in court and it had taken all of his energy and will. They were no longer together anymore, but that didn't stop Kim from shaking up his life and spreading false rumours about their marriage whenever she felt like it. It had also been a month since the last time he had seen or spoken Michelle, and he'd be lying if he said he didn't miss her dearly. There wasn't a day that went past where he didn't call her or drive by her house to see her but she simply would ignore and stop herself from seeing him each and every time, and after a month, he started to think that if she had truly meant what she said the last time and gotten over her love for him.

He leaned back in his seat and rubbed his forehead before pushing his head back to look up at the ceiling. There was also the thought of Jay that stressed him out even more, because even though Michelle wasn't around anymore, their relationship still hadn't gotten better. In fact, he was still as distant and bitter towards him more than he was before. There was no mending their relationship as Father and son, because whatever he did wouldn't be enough to make up for the past.

"Sir, what do you think we should do about the final reports?" his COO; Steve questioned, turning to glance over at David, as he briefly ignored him, whilst continuing to gaze up at the ceiling.

Everybody in the room began to give each other strange looks, in disbelief of David's attitude that afternoon. As he was the boss, he would engage in meetings and put on a smile for them, even if they knew he wasn't having a very good day, but then, he didn't even bother to try and hide how he was feeling, and they knew he was simply tired and fed up. He was a man who had plastered an image for years just to please the people around him after all.

"Alright everybody, why don't we continue the meeting later. Mr Morris needs some time to himself for a little while" Steve spoke, as the other members of the board of directors nodded their heads, before getting up from their seats to head towards the door. Once they all exited out of the office, Steve went and sat opposite David before sighing to himself and speaking up. "David, is everything okay? you've hardly said anything at all today?... is this because of the divorce with Kim?" Steve asked worriedly, staring directly at him.

David slowly brought his head down and rubbed his eyes together. "It's honestly nothing, Steve. Thank you for asking, but I'm fine" he said, clearing his throat. Although he tried to assure him by his words, his facial expression told a different story.

"I know that's not true. You can tell me anything David, we've known each other for twelve years now and I know when something's bothering you... I've never seen you like this before".

David glanced down at his desk for a brief moment and turned to stare at the oil painting that Michelle had painted for him a while ago. He slowly picked up the painting and grasped his thumb through it, before turning his attention back to Steve. "What... what do you do when you love someone, but someone else loves them too?" he asked quietly.

"Well, that's a hell of a question" Steve chuckled, leaning up from his seat. "You know back in the 80's, my older brother and I were both interested in my wife. He was so much more popular than me, bigger, more charming... everybody thought that she was going to choose him, but she chose me instead, she choose me even though I was completely out of her league and knew that we would be laughed at us a couple. We've been married ever since and she gave me three amazing sons. Even today when people take one good look at us they think how a beautiful woman like her could possibly be married to a man like me, but she wanted to be with me and that's something I've still not understood after all these years".
