"I thought you preferred to stay inside and play video games instead of coming outside." Your father joked as he saw Michael glare at the tent he was going to spend the weekend in. "(YN) told me you weren't much of an outdoor person."

"I'm not." Michael agreed as he placed his stuff inside the tent before rejoining your father who looked like he was perfectly at home in the woods, soaking in the sunlight and holding his fishing pole, eyeing the lake like he just couldn't wait to hook up a couple fish and fry them over a campfire. "She wanted me to get away with you for a weekend and bond though and you said you wanted to go camping so he put two and two together and I didn't get a chance to say no. She told me I was going."

"Yeah." Your father laughed. "She gets that from her mother. Come over here son, let's talk man to man, I wanted to ask you a few things."

Michael gulped, he was not expecting this and planted a reminder in his head to kill you for this when he got back. He sat next to your father on the back of his truck, his hands burrowed inside of his hoodie.

"You can relax."

Michael couldn't relax. He'd never been alone with your father like this before and your father looked like a scary man and despite you telling him that your father was just a big softy, he felt slightly uneasy next to the man. "Sorry."

"You've been with my girl a while now, Michael, you have any intentions on the future with her?"

His head snapped to the side. "What?"

"I asked if you had any intention on spending the future with my daughter or not."

"I've thought about it." Michael mumbled. "With my schedule, I don't want to ask her and then be away for a month or so. She had to ask me if she could move in, convince me that everything would be okay. I'm just scared that she's going to get sick of my schedule and bail on me, I don't want her to bail. I love her."

"I know you do. I see the way you light up when I mention her. I like you Michael, you're the first guy she's been with that I can see sticking around for the long run."

"You think that of me?"

Your father nodded as he reached for his fishing pole and cast out to the water, waiting for a bite. Michael's eyes followed the fishing line, taking in the words your father spoke. He could see a future with you and Michael, he'd never heard of a girlfriend's father thinking that before, so he must've been doing something right with his life.

"You may have a crazy schedule, but she's never been one to stick to a normal routine, she loves things shaking up on her, keeps her excited and ready to go on with life."

Michael's head swelled with thoughts on your future, instantly he saw you in a white dress, himself in a black tux, the boys all behind him, tears welling up in his eyes as you walked down the aisle, the man next to him walking you down, a smile on his face as well. That's when he knew he had to ask the question.

"What would you say if I said I wanted to marry your daughter. Would you give me permission?" He asked quietly.

A fish caught the hook and your dad reeled it in, as he reeled it in, he nodded to himself before finally grasping the fish, unhooking it and throwing it into a bucket next to him. He then turned to Michael. "I've been wanting you to ask me that question for the longest time now Michael! Nothing would make me happier than to have you marry my daughter! You're perfect for her, in every way. I already think of you as part of the family and this will just seal the deal. Ask her soon, I want to know what she says."

Michael smiled and laughed and had a million thoughts spiral into his mind. "I don't even have a ring."

Your father took a moment to think before he threw the fishing pole behind him. "Off." He said and Michael jumped down before your father got into the drivers seat and stared over at Michael who hadn't moved from behind the truck. "Well get in son!"

"Where are we going?"

A smirk lit up your dad's face. "We're going to go find my daughter a ring so you can ask her to marry you!"

"What about this camping weekend?"

"Ahh forget it." Your father laughed as Michael climbed in. "I'd rather be home right now anyways, a beer in my hand and baseball on the tv. Now let's go, we'll grab the stuff later! I'm going to help you pick out the most beautiful ring she deserves. You ready for this?"

Michael nodded, finally feeling a sense of comfort as he sat next to your father in the cramped up truck. "Yeah, let's get a ring."
