Chapter 8: Meet the Family

A couple of hours after the four of us playing games, including tag and a few board games, Ruby got tired after our final game recommended by her. Seeing that she was the youngest according to Crystal, it didn't surprise me that she had chosen tickle fighting as her choice. Ruby tried to put up a good fight, but she was helpless when it came to my belly rubs. Kaitlin was a monster when it came to tickle fights. She found places that I was ticklish that even I didn't know. I thought my feet were the only spot, but I was proven wrong quickly. Ruby would keep begging to be freed, but whenever she was, she would try and get back at anyone she could. This tactic only brought retaliation from all three of us. She flailed and tried to break free. Eventually, it turned into a team battle with Crystal and I against Kaitlin and Ruby. After a long battle, we were able to emerge victorious. Ruby was exhausted to the point to where she wanted to sleep for a little bit. She couldn't even make it to her room before she collapsed and fell asleep. I was thankful she hadn't fallen asleep at the stairs.

I decided I would need to at least rest my body. I was still edgy from when Kaitlin would be merciless. As Kaitlin and Crystal took care of Ruby, I went back to the front room and sat down on a couch they had. Now their couch was more like a normal couch then Rena's. A little longer, probably to let all of them sit down, but still a couch. I hadn't sat down for more than a couple of minutes when I heard Kaitlin's voice.

"Hey Cassius. Do you mind if I ask a few questions?" My eyes turned over to her as she stood a little out of the hallway.

"I don't see why not." I said. She walked over towards me and jumped up on the couch. She looked at me, then began with an apology instead of a question.

"Sorry about before." Kaitlin said. It took me a second to remember what she was talking about.

"You mean the whole tackling thing?" I asked. She chuckled nervously, then looked away.

"Y-yeah." Kaitlin replied. "I've just... you know, heard a lot about you and well..." I thought I might try and make it a little less awkward.

"I meant to ask about that." I said. "Especially when you... started kissing me." Her face started to brighten up as she turned her head away from me. I realize my attempt was not the best. I really should have thought before I spoke. "L-look, why don't you tell me-"

"I read up that humans were very kind." Kaitlin said. "That they were also very strong and were capable of many things." I looked at her, a little confused. I had heard statements like these before, but it was her tone that made me stopper for a second.

"Like what?" I asked. Kaitlin faced me, having regained her composure a little.

"Well, for one, I read that they had powers to heal others." Kaitlin said.

"That one... is kind of true." I admitted. "I'm not supposed to be able to do that, but... for some reason, I can." Kaitlin looked at me confused. Before she could ask, I tried to explain. "It's complicated, but all I know right now is that I can, but I never could before I came here." She seemed somewhat satisfied with the answer. I didn't know how to honestly give a better answer.

"Okay, another was that you came out-"

"I did not come out of the earth." I interrupted. "I don't know how that came to be, but there's no way you can grow me." Kaitlin seemed a little surprised with how quickly I responded to that, then started to chuckle.

"I guess that's been asked a lot of times if you responded that quickly." I gave a groan and placed my hand on my face.

"I'm not a plant, I don't know how everyone could get mixed up with that."

"That does bring up another rumor." Kaitlin said. "Are you able to read minds?" I looked at her, then shook my head.

"People try to do that where I'm from, but no." I said. "I honestly don't think there's possibly a way that I could ever do that."
