Chapter 33: Facts From Fiction

When Grace had given me some room to get on the roof, I looked around and saw that pretty much all the buildings were close by. I breathed a sigh of relief, knowing the jumps wouldn't be so hard. Grace looked over the roof, looking down the streets, then motioned for me to follow. She hopped one roof and started going for the other. I stared at her for a second, shaking my head to muster as much energy as I could. I started out walking, then I started running, jumping from one roof and landing on another. Grace was already ahead of me by a few other buildings. Either she was faster than me or I was being sluggish.

That's the same thing you idiot. Jet said. Now either pick up the pace and catch up, or I'll throw you over those buildings.

"You can't do that." I said. "You're just a shadow."

That can still take over your body if you let me. I scoffed a little bit as I jumped my third building.

"Yeah, and I'm gonna let you take over me just so you can throw us over one. Good luck even bending my arms far back enough to do that." Jet huffed a little bit.

Do you really want me to try? I huffed myself, now getting into the habit of jumping from one roof to another.

"Go ahead." I said. "Just realize that once you either give up or break our arms, I'll have won this argument." Jet went silent for a second, and it seemed I was actually catching up to Grace.

Did you just seriously say that? Like, legitimately tell me to break our arms?

"What, are you gonna actually do it?"

No! Jet responded irritated. Who in their right mind would break their own bones?! I thought about it for a second.

"Well, I have read some torn up books that said some people have gotten away from death by cutting off one of their limbs."

Oh my Arceus, you just jumped the chain. I chuckled a little bit, now getting used to my repetition of jumping and landing.

"Don't deal out what you can't take." I said. Grace had stopped, then looked back at me and held out her hand, telling me to stop. I landed on the same roof as her, stopping myself from going forward. I was about to ask what was going on when I caught something move down in the streets. It was dark, and the only light was from the streetlamps. Yet I could see the light shine off something. Grace and I got low as we got towards the edge of the building. As we peered over, we saw a Metang gliding over the street. At first I thought nothing of it, but then Grace pointed out the green diamonds on its arms. I immediately started to sink my head lower as I saw that it was a part of Laurine's entourage. I did NOT want to meet back up with Neptune. Not only was his size intimidating, but the scars on his body made him look like he was going to rip my arms off. If the Dewott hadn't said that the Empoleon was really the leader hunting me down, I would have thought he was a wild Pokémon like Rose told me. The Metang looked around, then started to turn around. Grace and I hid ourselves behind the ledge, not daring to look up and over it again. The worst thing was, I couldn't even hear it moving. The thing had no legs!

Hold on. Jet said. I have an idea. Before I could even ask what, I felt like something had detached off of me. I even almost lunged in one direction! Grace caught my movement and pulled me back down.

"Stay down!" Grace whispered. Just then, Grace and I heard something loud crash off a certain distance. It made me jump, making Grace pull me down yet again. Soon after that, I could hear something like thrusters or along the lines of that going down the street. At that same moment, I felt something slam into me, but this time, I had my hands gripping onto the edge of the ledge.
