Chapter Six

I drove around until the cab man insisted I tell him where I was going and so I did and he took me home. I paid him with the last two thousand naira I had and entered my flat. I fell on my bed and started crying all over again. Where was I to start my life again? All this because of Mr Peterson.

*knock knock*
"Go away don't disturb me!" I yelled even though my voice had already left me.

"Miss Badmus? It's me Alex. Alex Coker."

What did I just hear? What was he doing here? I haven't seen or heard from him since that day.
I quickly cleaned up my face and tidied the room as quick as I could and made my way to the door.

"Hello." I said as I opened it.

"I heard about what happened and I'm really sorry. That was a foolish thing of Mr Agunji." He said with sympathy as I let him come in.

He wasn't as bad as I thought.. he was actually a bit funny too. It's weird but I was glad he was around.

We spoke for what felt like hours, he made me laugh, smile and actually forget all that happened.. in summary, he made my whole day.

"Thank you really for coming." I said with a huge grin on my face as I walked him to the door.

"Thank you for having me. You'll be fine Thelma.. I promise you." He said and leaned in. I thought he was going in for a kiss but he gave me a peck on my cheeks instead.. that actually made me blush. He was such a gentleman that he didn't take advantage of my vulnerability. "Goodnight Miss Thelma."

"Goodnight Alex." I said as I eventually locked the door and heaved heavily. My heart was pounding faster than normal which is weird for me. I jumped on the bed and picked up my phone.. I was smiling the whole process.

I woke up and did my normal routine. Last night was a disaster at work and the police station so I needed to get a job if I intended in keeping this apartment. The rent was a bit expensive.

I managed to search on the internet last night for available job openings on the island and found one nice insurance company that was hiring. I was intended to go check it out and hopefully they'll take me.

*ring ring*

"Hello." I said as smiling since it was Alex calling.

"You doing anything today?" He asked as I bit my lower lips.

"Uh just going around Lagos to look for jobs." I said as I sat down staring at myself in the mirror.

"I have a better offer. Come to Eves restaurant at VI I got something to show you." He said and later on hung up. I didn't know what he had in mind but there was no harm in trying. I believe I could trust him I mean he hadn't given me any reason not to.

I finished from home and got outside to get a bus that'll take me to VI. It didn't take time before I got there and Alex had already made reservations for the both of us which I must admit was kinda sweet of him.

"Hey."
"Hey."

We both said as he hugged me and later on ushered me to sit down which I did. We spoke for awhile before the order came, he just told me about a new job offer in his friend's company. It was one of the biggest companies in Lagos which I must admit was amazing.

"So what do you think? You like the idea?" He asked as he grabbed his fork filled with spaghetti and downed it in his throat.

"Yes I love the idea. Thank you so much Alex." I said with all grins.

"Good. So you'll go in for an interview tomorrow and then talk on the pay and other benefits."
I wanted to just jump from my side of the table to his and hug him so tight. He really was an amazing person. Thank God I met him.

"Thank you Alex. Really thank you so much. I won't let you down." I said as he winked at me.

After dinner, he escorted me to the door where he ordered me an Uber back home. He told me I could go around if I wanted to that the ride was on his MasterCard which I must admit was cool. I hugged him and when I was about leaving, I gave him a brief kiss on his lips.

I don't know why I did that but I just did. I was probably just too excited and couldn't hold my joy. He was also pretty happy I kissed him because he couldn't stop grinning and smiling.

I got into the Uber, waving at him before it left.
