Chapter Twenty-One

The next morning, when I was eating at the table, Alex stomped in, he was fuming and looked angry. "Alex! What are you doing here?" I asked startled getting up from the chair but he ignored me and searched the living room with his eyes.

"Where's he?"

"Who?" I asked perplexed. I had never seen Alex this way before and honestly I was scared.

"Alex. Bro." Jeremy praised walking down the fleet the stairs. As he reached the last step, Alex dashed at him and landed a heavy blow on his jaw.

"Alex!" I yelled as I rushed over to them.

"You think you can take her away from me? Bro?" He mocked as Jerry clenched his jaws and got up.

"What's gotten into you?" I yelled holding him back.

"Dad?" Hannah called from upstairs, she must've seen all that happened.

"It's alright baby. Go inside. Nana will be with you." Jeremy ushered as the young lady quickly ran up to meet Hannah. Jerry hadn't said a word to Alex and I was scared he was gonna do something foolish.

"What happened?" He asked as calmly as he could. I noticed he was also annoyed but did his best to keep it hidden. There was a little puddle of blood just on his lower lips.

"What's Thelma doing here? Why did she sleep here?"

I deduced from the whole atmosphere that this wasn't just because I slept over here,there was something else going on I needed to find out.

"She got here late last night to give a gift to Hannah and couldn't go home at that time so I asked her to stay here. Is that so wrong? And besides I know what this is about... you still haven't gotten over the fact that she chose me and not you." Jerry fired and this provoked Alex the more as he rushed at him again swinging more blows.

This time around, Jerry didn't hold back and defended himself landing simultaneous blows on Alex's face. I couldn't bear the sight of it as I tried to stop them but Jerry's elbow hit me  in the process and I fell down to the floor.

"Thelma! Thelma!"  They both yelled but I couldn't deduce what else they had said as my eyes gently closed up.

I must've passed out because I woke up in the hospital. I looked around the room... Alex was talking to the doctor while Jeremy sat down pressing his phone.. he stopped when I groaned.

"You're up." He said and made his way to me. "Thought you were dead there for a sec." He joked as I scorned at him.

I suddenly remembered I was pregnant... this was my first pregnancy and I didn't know much about it. "Doc, Doc" I called out panicking as the Doctor rushed to where I was with Alex closely behind him.

"How do you feel?" The doctor asked but I didn't care about myself. "How's my baby?" I asked. This wasn't the way I planned on telling Alex or Jerry but I couldn't care less what they thought of me.

"You're pregnant?" Jeremy asked almost in a yell. I knew he was shocked but I didn't bother looking at him as I waited for the doctor to answer me. Alex just kept quiet.

"Your baby is fine. Don't worry." The doctor said with a warm smile. I was relieved and rested back gently on bed.

"She's fine. You can leave now Jerry." Alex fired coldly at Jeremy as he heeded and left the room.

"You didn't have to send him off like that. He has been a great help to me." I rebuked Alex as he helped me up the stairs leading to my apartment. He was nervous and I couldn't tell why until my neighbor, Mrs Adejobi sighted us.

"Ewo!! You! So you can come to this place Ehn!" She fired but I wasn't sure who she was referring to. I had not done anything to her.

"Mrs Adejobi. What happened?" I asked concerned about what she said to us.

"How do you know this man Thelma?"

"He's my boyfriend. The man I mentioned to you earlier." I said with a smile soon turned to a frown.

"This is the man I told you about that impregnated my daughter and was avoiding us. That yeye man Thelma." The words came confusing to me as I turned to Alex. He was just quiet and said nothing. I angrily stomped to my room and slammed the door locking it behind me.

I heard Mrs Adejobi rain a few curses at Alex before her voice faded and I heard footsteps. Probably the both of them going to talk outside. I was just confused and also sad. This was a man I thought I could proudly take home to my parents and he turned out to be a dog. I was supposed to bring him home this weekend to meet my mother.

Oh what a fool I was!

I would just clear my mind off men totally and focus on becoming fully established so I could take care of my baby. It wasn't going to be easy especially when I worked for someone like Jerry who was crazy and sometimes made me think he liked me. I don't know I wasn't sure of anything yet... he had never made any of his intentions to me... probably just had fun teasing me and making me feel uneasy.

I did my best to put on a cold face to Jeremy at work and I was glad he didn't make too much effort in making jokes at me. The week was moving very fast and was almost over...

When did we enter Monday sef? That it's already Thursday like this?!

"Thelma!" Jeremy called as I rushed to his office. I was holding my phone in my hand since I was trying to explain to my mom why i was cancelling. Made up excuses that Alex had work to do and all... of course she didn't believe me and thought I was hiding my boyfriend from her.

"Sir." I said as I walked into his office. He asked me to look for a file jacket in the drawers close to the wall. I began searching and dropped my phone on his table. Soon after, my phone rang and before I could pick it up, he grabbed it and picked. "Hello Ma." He said as Mama kept quiet. I'm pretty sure she wasn't expecting a man to pick up my phone.

"Is this Alex?"

"Yes Ma." Jeremy said with a grin on his face. I was trying to reach for the phone but he raised it up and of course he was taller than I.

"Ah Thelma was telling me you couldn't make it again to see us this weekend. Please na my son try and come. We want to see you."

"When? This weekend?"

"Yes abi she did not tell you?"

"Ah that's no problem. I'll be there, we'll be there together." He said and dropped the call. I just wanted to strangle him.

"What the fuck did you just do? I've broken up with Alex and I can't go home without him." I yelled already fuming. He had just put me into a huge mess. My cousins would now think I framed it up.

"That's no problem. I've been looking for a little vacation to that side anyways. I could come as Alex and help you with your mom and in turn you take it as my apology for what happened.

I thought about it for awhile. This was really a bad idea and I knew it.

"But-

"No buts. We're going. See you tomorrow." He chorused happily and left the office.

This guy just always seems to outbeat his craziness!! Wtf was I gonna do now?
