It's been a week after papa died and my mother wasn't certainly taking it well so I had to stay back at home with her while Jerry returned to lagos because of work and his daughter.
"Mama... stop crying na it's going to be okay." I said as I walked into papa room... she had been there for almost four days now crying and she also refused to eat.
"Thelma, I'm all alone." She began again.. I didn't know what to say to her to comfort her I wasn't really good with stuffs like this.
"You're not alone Mama.. you have me na. You can come visit me in Lagos all the time." I said and say down beside her.
"Thelma you shouldn't be here.. what of Jerry? You should be with him now..." she said and quickly wiped her tears.
"Mama you need more more."
"Don't worry I'll be fine. Your cousins are on their way from Abuja so the house would be filled up.. I know you don't like them that much."
I never really got along with my Abuja cousins.. they're proud and very stuck up. My father's younger brother children. They kept comparing their achievements with me every time they came around for holidays back when I was growing up. And my uncle certainly wasn't too different from Papa.
"I'll be returning back to Lagos tomorrow Mama, is that fine with you?"
She wiped her tears and hugged me. "My dear it's fine. You should be going back I agree so you can get settled down. I haven't even asked you about the baby... why hasn't Jerry proposed yet?"
I didn't know how to tell her it wasn't Jerry's child that it was a rape incident.. there was a lot I kept away from my mother and talking about it now would just open a lot of old wounds which wouldn't help either of us right now.
"Well we wanted to settle work first before we do that." I lied since there was actually no way of she finding out what exactly happened.

Jeremy's POV
I didn't like the idea I left Thelma back at Enugu and returned to work but then again I had some important meetings I had to attend which couldn't be postponed anymore.
"So sir what do you say?" I asked as we got up from the chairs... I could tell I had sold him off with my proposal.
"Lemme sleep on it.. I'll give you a decision tomorrow."
"Alright that's awesome." I said and we shook hands as I walked him out of the office.
I was exhausted and tired and I had one last business meetings scheduled for tomorrow... so I packed my bag and made my way downstairs to go pick up Hannah from her moms place... I honestly didn't want to have to see Bunmi but I had no choice.
"Dad!!" Hannah yelled as she ran to hug me, I carried her up and twirled her round giving her kisses on her neck which made her giggle.
"I've missed you my princess." I said as I dropped her to the ground and took a look at Bunmi.
"Thanks for taking care of her."
"Of course.. she's my daughter remember..anything for her." She said and gave me a weird smile which I wasn't sure what it meant.
"Dad you look horrible.. have you had any sleep?" Hannah asked noticing my face.. I hadn't had much sleep since I got back from Enugu.
"Hey wanna come in for a quick dinner? I'm sure you haven't had anything to eat." Bunmi suggested and honestly I wanted to decline but she was right... I was starving! So I obliged to her request and went in for dinner.
"So how has work been? I haven't heard from you." She said ... she was trying to make convo but all I wanted from her was that dinner.
Hannah went out to the living room leaving me alone with Bunmi in the kitchen.
"Jer, you can't stay mad at me forever."
"I'm not mad at you." I protested
"Then why don't we talk anymore? I understand we can't get back together but at least we could be friends.. we have a daughter together you can't certainly push me away from her life also."
"I wasn't planning on. Look Bunmi I've moved on and have someone I plan to marry... you can visit Hannah whenever you want to it's your right but you can't expect us to become buddies all of a sudden." I said and even though I knew it hurt her feelings, I wasn't about to fall for one of Bunmi's tricks again... she was good when it came to manipulating people into doing what she wanted.. probably why Alex has been a mess.
"Alright... you're as a stubborn as ever but it's alright I understand." She said and faked a smile.
Dinner went well she made me spaghetti with sausages and it was yummy... one thing about Bunmi was that she was an amazing cook... she took cooking lessons back in London and I remembered she always made those special delicacies whenever she came home from classes.
"Like it?" She asked as she picked up my plate.
"It was alright." I said as dryly as I could but she obviously knew I enjoyed it cause I ate twice... "Alright I should get going now." I said and got up "Hannah?" I called out as looked around and saw she had fallen asleep on the couch.
"She's asleep already... why don't you spend the night here and you guys can leave tomorrow? It's already eleven and moving around with her at this time is late.
She had a point I know but I couldn't help but think she had other motifs for asking me to stay..
"Uh okay..." I said and relaxed a bit on the sofa I was sitting on.
"You know you can sleep in the guest rom inside? Isn't the sofa a little too small for you?"
"No it's comfy thank you." I said and ignored her as she left.
She took Hannah inside to lay her in the room and she went to her room I guess. I was extremely tired so I made myself comfortable on the couch.
"Jer?" Someone called out as I turned to see it was Bunmi.
"What do you want?"
"Do you still smoke? I have a little stash here if you want to."
As hard as I tried to resist, I knew a smoke was what I needed right now to relax n ease up my stress so I obliged and we went to the balcony so it wouldn't smell in the house.
