Josh sat on the beach, the sun had set and the moonlight lit the whole area. Taking in the view he felt something brush against his fingertips. Looking down he saw a journal, picking it up he opened the first page. Seeing El's name he looked around, standing up seeing no sign of her.

Shouting her name he reached for his phone and dialed El's mothers number. She had given it to him before the dinner. Instantly she picked up. Running down the side of the beach they both asked the same question.

"So she's not with you?" Josh asked, panicked.

"No! She just ran out. Are you lying to me?"

"Joanne, I'd never lie. I have her journal here with me. But it's a new one."

"Journal? She doesn't have a journal. Where are you?" In the background you could hear a car door slam.

"I—" cutting himself off he saw a group of people surrounding something. "I need to let you go. There's something going on."

Pushing past people he looked down and saw El.

Her body had gone blue, almost grey. Hair still wet from the water. Even the ocean seemed to quiet at the sight. Instantly he was by her side as someone preformed CPR. Time went by in a blur as the EMS people pulled him away and continued, then the ambulance ride. His hands gripped the sandy journal as he waited for her mother to arrive.

Josh felt numb.

It didn't seem like any of this was real.

Her pale face had turned grey. Body had wrinkled. She was cold to the touch. That wasn't the El he knew. This wasn't real. Pinching himself hard again and again he wanted it to be a dream. He prayed for it to be one. Just last week she had been here, just this evening he saw her on the news running.

She is here.

Joanne ran to the front desk, asking about what happening. As if on cue the doctor came out and asked for her, Joanne turned around and ran to him. Josh stood up and walked over, stopping short when he saw her body shake and cries break through the cold air.

"She was hypothermic for a very long time, I'm sorry ma'am. Is there anyone you'd like us to call?"

"I'd like you to get back in there and save my daughter! This is a hospital. W-what kind of doctors are you? Go! I said go!" She screamed, before she could grab the doctor Josh wrapped his arms around Joanne and held her arms to her chest. Calming her, restraining her and protecting her from the surreal dream.

She is gone.
